Annual Goal Mile Challenge in Castlebar and Ballina
The annual Goal Mile challenge in aid of the chairity will take place in both Ballina and Castlebar on Christmas Day. If you wish to work up an appetite for the christmas dinner why not go along. Castlebar: Time: 1.15pm Venue: St Marys Track. Ballina: Time: 11am Venue: Belleek.
St Stephens Day 26th December
Manulla 5K Run / Jog 5K
Manulla 5km Run/Jog/Walk on St Stephens Day 2011 at 12pm
The 5km Walk/Jog/Run is being organized by Manulla Football Club and all proceeds will go to the football club. It takes place on St Stephen’s day, Monday 26th December at 12.00pm. This community inspired event is aimed ar walkers and runners of all abilities. Prizes for best dressed Christmas runner and refreshments served afterwards
Cong St Stephens Day Walk
This annual walk will begin from the Cong Church Car Park at 11am on Monday December 26th. Registration fee of €5 goes to the Community Centre Development Fund. Light refreshments served on route.
Knock St Stephens Day Walk
Will take place after 12 noon mass on St Stephens Day. All monies raised will go to local Order of Malta. All welcome and wear your Santa Hats.
Balla Golf Club
The club will hold a left handers vs right handers at 11am on St Stephens Day (weather permitting). They will also run an “Open” 3 ball scramble each day from Tuesday 27th December to Monday January 2nd. This event is open to all and bring your friends.
Westport Covey Wheelers Fun Events on St Stephens Day
Put your cycling skills to the test in a fun event organised by Westport Covey Wheelers CC on the North Mall, Westport on St Stephen’s Day from 11am to 1pm.
Take it easy in the Slow Bicycle Race or test your fitness in the 100-metres Sprint. Bike handling skills can also be tested over an obstacle course with chicanes, cones and other obstacles to be negotiated. The events are open to children and adults all ages and ability – all you need is a bike and a helmet.
Entry is free, register at the Mall from 10.30am and the action will start at 11am.

The route starts at Carramore, a short distance from the football club, proceeding towards Mc Ellins Shop in the village, going straight though the crossroads at the shop, along by the railway line and comes onto the main Castlebar/ Balla Road turning left for approx 1 km where again it turns left at the school, continues past the community centre and turns right again back along the route towards the football club for the finish line..

Fun against the watch on St Stephen's day.
Western Lakes CC will hold a 10 mile Time Trial on December 26th, the aim is to get as many on bikes as possible after the Xmas day indulges.
All participants must Guess their times prior to starting and will NOT be allowed to wear a watch or use a bike computer to see how fast they are going.
The winner is the person who guesses closest to their predicted time.
Prizes for the closest 3 predicted times and also forthe fastest 3competitors on the day. Special prize for best costume.
This event is open to all.
Sign on from 10.30am at the Cycling centre, Kilmaine Rd Ballinrobe,first off 11am.

BMX Racing in Ballinrobe
On Thursday the 29th of December kids and adults get the chance to try out their new Santa bikes at the BMX track on the Kilmaine road Ballinrobe.
Activities will get under way at 10.30am with practice and the Fun and Competitionwith get under way at 11.30am.
The club have some BMX bikes for hire but it is recommended that you bring your own. All participants must wear a helmet.
This event is jointly promoted byWestern LakesCC and Connacht Youth Cycling and is opened to all.
The event starts with a warm up session followed by time trials and group racing .Trophies will be presented to 1st ,2nd and 3rd places in the following age groups under 8`s ,10`s,12`s,14`s ,16`s and Adults.
The entry fee is 5euro, refreshments will be served at the presentation.
There isan extra incentive of a trip to Rathoath BMX track Co Meathin the New year for those that meet the criteria set out by Connacht Youth Cycling Committee.
Walking Track now open in Ballyglass
The new walking track around Ballyglass FC pitch is now open. The track is 600m around the perimeter of 2 pitches and is fully floodlit up to 10pm. Suitable for joggers as well. All are welcome to this fantastic new facility in Ballyglass, Claremorris.
New Years Day
Windmill Challenge
A 15km gided walk through the windmills from Kiltimagh to Ballyvary will take place on new years day 2012. Participants are asked to meet at Kiltimagh GAA grounds for 11am. Registration is €20. For more information contact Tomas at 087 9227554
Claremorris Goal Mile
This event will start in the Tesco Car Park at 2pm on New Years Day. Participants are asked to gather at 1.30pm at the front door of the shopping centre. There is no charge but any donations to GOAL will be gladly accepted. This event is run by Claremorris Athletic Club and more information can be got from Peter at 087 9714071
