The 5-day course will provide an introductory level of coverage to the operation and management of publicly owned treatment works. Attendees will be instructed in fundamental principles of wastewater treatment. The main emphasis will be on the most frequently used treatment processes. The course is intended to highlight matters that should concern a regulatory inspector during an NPDES or WDR program inspection.

Topics include:

Wastewater characteristics, microbiology of activated sludge, attached growth (fixed film), suspended growth (activated sludge), advanced treatment, process control, inspection procedures, sampling procedures, flow measurement, field measurements, and records review.

Day four includes a field exercise at a local waste water treatment plant.

PLUS – Group Two includes a day of supplemental inspection and enforcement training provides by the State Board’s Office of Enforcement!
