JOB TITLE: Relief Worker

LOCATION:RoscorYouthVillage

ACCOUNTABLE TO:Project Manager

REPORTED TO BY:Volunteers/Tutors

JOB PURPOSE

Relief/Sessional staff will be required to assist Project Workers with the delivery of a range of quality activities based on individuals and group abilities promoting skills acquisition, education,self esteem, health, environmental awareness etc. for the young people who use the RoscorYouthVillage.

The post holder will support and complement the role of colleagues and visiting staff and work as an effective member of a team.

PROVIDING QUALITY SERVICES

Assess the needs of individuals and groups using the service i.e. the

young people, referral agents and stakeholders.

Plan, agree and provide services which actively engage at an operational

practice level those young people who avail of the designated

programme, within the resources available and promote Extern’s ethos

through a range of quality well managed experiences.

Identify, manage and control risk in a range of environments.

Ensure own practice meets agreed quality standards and relevant codes

of conduct.

PLANNING & MANAGING WORK EFFECTIVELY

Assist in the planning, and initiation of the programme in line with

operational plans and organisational strategy.

Contribute to the setting of objectives for the project.

Contribute to the evaluation and improvement for the programmes

of work offered.

BUILDING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS & COMMUNICATION

Represent the project in formal and informal settings.

Contribute to the development of joint working with staff in other agencies e.g. community agencies utilised by the project, community services etc.

Assist with administrative requirements all aspects of the programme including recording of work with clients, referral agencies etc.

Assist ensuring client files, referral agency reports re: clients, any other information relating to the Agency are accessed, stored and

handled in a confidential manner.

Assist with the preparation of written reports/policy papers for Project Co-ordinator.

MANAGING RESOURCES EFFICIENTLY

Take care of project transport and other physical resources used in the provision of residentials, or other activity offered within the programme.

Record weekly operating budget for activity/programme costs.

Be aware and comply with relevant health and safety legislation/

organisational policy and procedures regarding health & safety, in particular when driving minibus and with regard to self and others where outdoor pursuits are offered.

PROMOTING EFFECTIVE PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

Assist with the recruitment and selection of volunteers.

Assist with the management, leadership and development of volunteers working within the project as well as monitor objectives which have been jointly agreed.

Report inappropriate practice.

ENABLING STAFF TO DEVELOP

Contribute to the induction of any volunteers involved in the project.

Assist with the identification of learning needs of volunteers.

Develop own performance and assist with the development of volunteers.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Sessions/groups often run in high-risk environment i.e. outdoors.

Irregular hours including residentials, weekend and evening work.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Essential Criteria:

Must have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s (Grade C or above to include English Language) or equivalent qualification e.g. NVQ Level II in a relevant subject e.g. child care/youth work.

Hold an Outdoor Pursuits Qualification i.e. kayaking, power boating, hill walking etc (NGB) Level 1 Minimum).

PLUS

Must have a minimum of two years’ relevant, cumulative experience in a paid and/or voluntary capacity (where citing voluntary experience you must provide evidence of number of hours/days worked over what period of time) of direct work with young people, aged 8-17 years, within a structured environment e.g. residential setting, youth project and social work/care, etc.

In addition, successful candidates must have a full driving licencewith access to a car and relevant motor insurance that stipulates you can use your vehicle in connection with your business. (Please note these criteria will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to demonstrate their ability to meet the mobility requirements of the post).

Desirable Criteria:

Hold a Professional Qualification in Social Work, Youth & Community Work, Social Care or related Social Science discipline.

Category D1 on driving licence.
