Applications and information will be in folders numbered according to the number listed below. Check the box weekly for new scholarships…deadlines come quickly, so don’t delay!

  1. Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement (APCA) Scholarship Program – 19 National $2000 scholarships and 4 Bay Area $1000 scholarships will be offered to seniors of any ethnical or cultural background with a minimum GPA of 3.4. Applications are available at and are due before February 15, 2015.
  1. American College Foundation Scholarship – one-time scholarships from $1000 - $5000 for answering an essay prompt and turning in certain information. Students in 9th-12th grade are eligible to apply. The application deadline for the 2015-2016 year is April 1, 2015. More information is on
  1. Middle Class Scholarship Program – California residents who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or have AB 540 status can receive partial tuition scholarships to UCs and CSUs if their families make below $100,000 per year. The scholarships are based on a sliding scale according to your family’s income and will cover up to 20% of tuition costs for the 2015-16 school year and up to 30% of tuition costs for the 2016-17 school year. You are automatically considered for this scholarship when you apply for FAFSA!
  1. Hispanic Community Affairs Council Scholarships – many scholarships for Hispanic seniors who are from Alameda County! Students will be evaluated first on financial need, then on their grades, essay, and interview. Applications are available at or in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office. Applications must be mailed in before February 13, 2015.
  1. Art and Writing Scholarships – Sign up for a variety of scholarships related to art and writing. Go to for more information. It starts on September 15, 2014.
  1. Montana State University Scholarships – Freshmen Achievement Awards specific to Montana State University. Students only need to apply to the school and send their SAT or ACT scores.
  1. Black College Expo Scholarships – scholarships for African American students will be awarded at the Black College Expo in Oakland on January 24, 2015. To enter to win a scholarship, you must attend the Black College Expo and write an essay on “Why is a College Education Important to Me?”. More information is available at or in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office and the essays are due before January 5, 2015.
  1. SportQuest Playing with Purpose Scholarship–Four$2000 scholarships and twenty $300 scholarships will be awarded to outstanding Christian student athletes. Students must have a minimum “C” grade average or higher, be a varsity athlete in one or more sports, and be a committed follower of Jesus Christ. Applicants also receive a Player Profile Listing, award certificate, PWP shirt, press release, and an invitation to travel on a SportsQuest Summer Mission Expedition. Applications are available at and are due before Feb. 1, 2015.
  1. Stephanie Brown Cadet Memorial Foundation Scholarship – a renewable $1000 scholarship in recognition of outstanding volunteerism. Students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, have a significant amount of volunteer hours within the last 18 months, and be a resident of the Bay Area. Applications are available at and must be received by February 9, 2015.
  1. Johnson Scholars Program – full tuition, room and board scholarships to Santa Clara University. Candidates should have a record of high academic performance in a rigorous curriculum, an unweighted GPA of 3.8 or better, an ACT composite score of 30 or above or an SAT combined score of 1400 in the Math and Critical Reading sections, and evidence of leadership and service. Applications are available in the Scholarship Box in the Counseling Office. To apply, students should apply for Santa Clara University on the Common Application and they will be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is required.
  1. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program – a $1000 scholarship for students interested in pursuing an animation career path at a college or university. Applications are available at and are due before June 1, 2015.
  1. Ronald McDonald House Scholarships –scholarships for seniors who are exemplary role models in their communities and have the initiative to fulfill their educational goals. Applications are available at and must be submitted by January 20, 2015.
  1. P G & E Employee Resource Groups Scholarships – over 160 scholarships are offered to Bay Area seniors by various employee groups at P G & E. There are scholarships for Latino, Asian, and Black students as well as female students and students whose parents are veterans. Applications are available at: and are due before February 9, 2015.
  1. Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship – $1000 scholarships for seniors interested in pursuing a fashion degree at an accredited college. Applications are available at and are due before June 1, 2015.
  1. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship - $1000 scholarships for seniors interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited college. Applications are available at and are due before June 1, 2015.
  1. Kappa Alpha Psi Berkeley Fraternity Scholarships – 3 $1000 scholarships will be awarded to African American or historically underrepresented students attending college. Students should have a 3.0 GPA or higher and be active in community service. Applications are available at and are due before March 28, 2015. NEW!
  1. California Wine Grape Growers Scholarships – two 4-year, $8000 scholarships and four 2-year $2000 scholarships are offered to children of vineyard employees working in the 2014 or 2015 wine grape growing season. Applications are available at and must be postmarked by March 27, 2015.
  1. Italian American Federation Scholarships - $500 scholarships awarded to seniors of Italian ancestry with good academic records and evidence of leadership and character. Applications are available at and are due before March 15, 2015.
  1. NACE Corrosion in Motion Video Contest – a global video competition encouraging high school and college students to educate others about the issues of corrosion and how it affects today’s society. The challenge: create a 4 minute video that shows the effects of corrosion in either the category of general corrosion or corrosion of bridges. 1st place: $3000, 2nd place: $2000, AND 3rd place: $1500.   1. Asian Pacific Fund Scholarships – this Bay Area foundation awards more than 70 $1000 - $20,000 scholarships to Asian students with financial need and a 3.0 GPA or higher. There are 12 different scholarship programs run by the Asian Pacific Fund, so you can apply for multiple scholarships. Applications are available at and are due by February 20, 2015. NEW!
  1. Italian Catholic Federation Scholarships - $400 scholarships for seniors of Italian descent who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Applications are available at and are due by March 15, 2015. NEW!
  1. Nisei Student Relocation Commemorative Scholarships - $500 - $2000 scholarships for students of Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Mien or Hmong ancestry whose families’ lives were disrupted by the Vietnam War. Applications are available at and are due by March 15, 2015. NEW!
  1. FIDM Scholarships – the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising offers scholarships to students who plan to attend FIDM and are involved in DECA, ROP, or their school’s FIDM Fashion Club. More information is available at and are due before April 30, 2015. NEW!
  1. Marist College Technology Scholarships – 5 full tuition, room and board scholarships will be offered to academically talented students who plan to major in Computer Science or Information Technology and Systems. Scholarship recipients also receive top internships and mentoring from leaders in the computer industry. If you are interested, you should apply to Marist College as soon as possible, but no later than February 1, 2015, and call undergraduate admissions at 1-800-436-5483 if you have any questions.   1. Stanford High School Summer College Horizon Scholars Program – exceptionally talented, low-income students in the Bay Area are invited to earn college credit at Stanford this summer. Fifteen students who are 16 – 19 years of age and receive free or reduced lunch will be chosen for this opportunity to attend the Summer College at no cost.   1. Stanford Summer Humanities Institute, Stanford Youth Orchestra, and High School Summer College – students in grades 10 to 12 can apply for these summer enrichment programs held at Stanford this summer. Apply soon at precollegiate.stanford.eduNEW!
  1. Arthritis Foundation Summer Science Internship Program – 12 outstanding college students and high school seniors will be chosen to work in leading research and clinical laboratories at Stanford and UCSF in the fields of rheumatology and immunology. Interns will work for 40 hours per week June 15 – Aug. 6 and will receive a $1500 stipend. This is a highly competitive program! Applications are available at must be submitted by February 20, 2015.
  1. UC Davis Young Scholars Summer Program – UC Davis offers summer research opportunities in the biological and natural sciences for 40 high achieving students who will be rising juniors or rising seniorsduring the summer of 2015. Students will reside in university dormitories June 21 – Aug. 1, 2015 and will work closely with university research faculty on individual projects. Students will also enjoy weekend field trips in northern California and lectures on current issues in scientific research. Applications are available at and scholarships are available on a needs based sliding scale. Applications are due before March 19, 2015.
  1. Soulciety.org Afterschool Internships – internships for high school students in which you earn $10 per hour and gain work experience and job skills. To sign up call 510-481-4550, say and spell your first and last name, give your birthdate and a reliable contact number in the message – or – visit and fill out a questionnaire.
  1. Wishbone Summer Program Scholarship – Do you need financial assistance to pursue a passion this summer? Wishbone will support you in attending a summer program of your choice. You must be a student in the Bay Area qualifying for free or reduced lunch and identify a specific passion you want to pursue in your application. Applications are available at and are due by Feb. 1, 2015.
  1. COSMOS (California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science) – want to spend a month on a UC campus exploring topics in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics? You get to live in the dorms with other high school students from all over the state and go on fun fieldtrips as well!Apply for COSMOS! Application period is January 20 – February 20, 2015 and the dates for the program are late June to early August. The statewide COSMOS website is at but also check the COSMOS sites for UC Davis, Irvine, San Diego, and Santa Cruz.
  1. ASSE International Student Exchange Program –be an exchange student to a country in Europe, Asia, or South America for a semester, summer or a full year! Scholarships are available at and are due in January. Talk to Mrs. Olson if you would like to look at the brochure. NEW!
  1. National Co-op Scholarship Program – 160 $25,000 scholarships awarded to students applying to one of the 9 listed co-op colleges (schools such as Drexel, Univ. of Cincinnati, Johnson & Wales Univ., Univ. of Massachusetts Lowell, and Rochester Institute of Technology) Qualified students must have a 3.5 or higher GPA. Applications are available at and must be received by Feb. 15, 2015. Early applications are highly encouraged.
  1. Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarships – NROTC scholarships are worth $180,000+ and include full tuition and fees, a book allowance, and a monthly stipend of $250-400. Eligible students can choose from over 150 colleges and universities. Students must earn at least a 22 composite on the ACT or 1000 Math and Critical Reading score on the SAT. After completing your degree, you must serve 5 years active duty in the Navy, or 4 years active duty in the Nurse Corps or Marine Corps.
  1. Cal State East Bay’s Education Summit for First Generation, African American, Asian American, Latino, Native American, and Pacific Islander Students and their Families – Saturday, January 31, 2015 in the University Gymnasium at CSU East Bay, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.   1. Los Altos Gap Year Fair – learn about all your options for taking a gap year between high school and college. Opportunities are available for travel, language immersion, directed study, outdoor adventure, community service, and internships. The Gap Year Fair is at Los Altos High School, 201 Almond Ave., Los Altos CA 94022 from 1:00 to 3:30 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 and is FREE. Go to for more information. NEW!

Preview Weekends at Southern Oregon University – January 16 – 17, February 13 – 14, 2015: tour the campus and residence halls, meet with faculty in your major, explore resources and facilities, experience campus dining, and spend the night on campus!   1. Visit and fill out your accomplishments and interests. Cappex will match you up with colleges and scholarships. They also have a very helpful feature called “College Admission Scattergrams”: just type in the name of a college you’re interested in, and it will show you a visual “scattergram” of students who were accepted or denied based on their GPAs and SAT/ACT scores.
