YOUNG PEOPLE IN HARMONY ATKENT MUSIC SUMMER SCHOOL

Young people from across Kenthave honed their playing skills and made new friends at the Kent Music Summer SchoolatBenendenSchool, near Cranbrook.

The residential courses help young musicians develop their musical ability using purpose-built facilities, playing in wind bands, symphony orchestras, string orchestras, jazz ensembles and recorder groups. Everyone who takes part is encouraged to sing in the course chorus and each course culminates in a concert for family and friends.

More than 1,000 young people aged eight to 19 took part in this year’s Kent Music Summer School which ran from July 11 to 29.

Phill Hyde, who manages the summer school, said: “The summer schoolallows young people to flourish in an atmosphere of encouragement, expertise and enjoyment with many of our students becoming firm friends as well as better musicians.”

The summer school has been running for more than 60 years and tutors are professional musicians and teachers of the highest quality, including members of major London orchestras. There are no auditions and anyone can apply. Children are placed in consultation with their music teacher, taking account of their experience and ability.

When students aren’t rehearsing, there’s plenty to do with a wide range of recreational facilities, including a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts as well as an on-site shop.Students are provided with mainly individual rooms, high-quality catering, and are looked after by a team of experienced supervisors, qualified nurses and lifeguards.
