James coached all classes in soccer skills as part of a Leitrim Sports Partnership programme for three sessions in April.

Jimmy continued with his weekly visits to the school coaching all classes in Gaelic football skills.

On April 26th Garda Joe Gaffney spoke to the pupils about how to deal with cyber-bullying.

Cash for Clobber

A ‘Cash for Clobber’ clothes collection was held on May 10th. It proved a great success raising €600. Thanks to all who contributed

3rd/4th class GAA blitz

The pupils of 3rd and 4th Class attended a football blitz in Drumkeeran on May 15th. The blitz involved several other schools from the locality.

Confirmation

Saint Patrick’s Church, Killinagh was the venue for this year’s Confirmation ceremony on Saturday, May 12th. Congratulations to Ciara Reynolds, Geraldine Halley, Amy Sheridan, Darren McTigue, Fergal Gilmartin and Michael Crawford who were confirmed on the day.

First Communion

Congratulations to Dylan Feeney, Damien Gilmartin, Roslyn Kane, Jamie McGreal, Liam McGourty and Mark Reynolds who made their First Communion in St. Hugh’s Church, Ballinaglera on Saturday, May 19th.

Book Fair

The school hosted a Book Fair from Wednesday, May 23rd until Monday, May 29th.

Sports Day

On Friday, May 23rd the school held its Sports Day. Great fun was had by all as the pupils competed in all types of events from sprints to wheelbarrow races. Thanks to Richard O’Loughlin who cut the grass on the school pitch in preparation for the event

Enrolment Day

An enrolment day for all new entrants in September was held on Monday, June 6th.

Cumann na mBunscol

Following defeats to Kilnagross NS and Aughnasheelin NS and victories over Gaelscoil Cluainín, Glenfarne NS and Killenummery NS we qualified for the Division 4 Shield Final. The final was played in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada on Monday June 11th and our opponents were Glenfarne NS. After a great display we emerged victorious. Congrats to all the team on a great performance.Thanks to Ballinaglera GAA for sponsoring a meal for the squad in Wrynne’s after the match. Further good news followed with the team been awarded the ‘Fair Play’ award for the division with a presentation made to the school in the Bush Hotel on June 20th.

School Mass

Thanks to Fr. Seán who celebrated mass in the school on June 14th to mark the end of the school year.

Departures

Best wishes to Geraldine Corrigan who will not be returning to Saint Hugh’s NS in September as she will be working in Blacklion NS and Glangevlin NS. Geraldine has worked as a Learning Support teacher in the school since September 1999. Also leaving us is Olivia McGrail who worked as a Learning Support and Resource teacher for the year. Both will be sorely missed by staff and pupils. Sarah Carty will be the school’s Learning Support teacher from September.

Hamletina

Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class staged the comedy production, ‘Hamletina’ in the Old School on Monday, June 18th. Well done to all involved on a fantastic night’s entertainment.

Farewell to Sixth Class

Best wishes to the pupils of Sixth Class (Ciara Reynolds, Geraldine Halley, Síog Bancroft, Amy Sheridan, Darren McTigue, Fergal Gilmartin and Michael Crawford) who are leaving us. We wish them every success in the future.

Polytunnel

Following a delivery of topsoil in April the polytunnel was ready for action. All classes were involved in the planting of lettuce with 1st, 2nd and 3rd also planting tomatoes.

School Tour

This year’s school tour was on Wednesday, June 20th and involved a trip to Waterworld, Bundoran .All classes from Second Class to Sixth classes went on the tour.
