PROGRAM

Luci Bailly, R.N., B.S.N., LHCRM and Doug Blackowiak, Director, Materials/Facilities at the Medical Center Clinic gave an overview on the clinic’s history, current activities and future plans for accommodating their patients, most of whom are elderly.

Luci shared that the clinic has been operating for 65 years and at the present time has eighty (80) physicians on board. Luci has seen many changes for the good over the years. The clinic is owned by the physicians and the rooms in the clinic that are not used by them are used by the hospital or rented out to other physicians. They have eight (8) satellite locations for dialysis. They also have satellite locations for radiation, ambulatory and an eye institute. Many of their patients have disabilities, and many are on Medicare. They have help for those who need assistance getting out of their car at the front door. They have a “lifting team”, a “transport team” a “medical response team” and a “bathroom brigade team”.

Doug spoke of Cheri Hoffman and how very helpful she had been in directing him in the process of making the outside of the building as well as the inside of the building compliant. The sidewalks, ramps, handicap parking, signage, and railings are in compliance and are checked on a regular basis. Because of deterioration the outside demands more attention then the inside. The ladies’ and mens’ restrooms are now compliant and so is the unicare restroom, which allows another person to go into the restroom and assist a person. The unicare restroom will be completed in the very near future. At this point they are working to solve the parking problem, especially in inclement weather. Valet parking, using flags, which would be placed on the vehicles or the use of pagers, has been suggested to assist the patients to the building from the parking lot.

Lusharon Wiley, Director of the UWF’s Student Success Program talked about their five (5) Main Programs.

  1. College Reach Out Program (CROP) – Students in high school.
  2. Learning Center – Tutoring students at no cost. Most of the tutors are students, however there are some professors. Tutors are available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
