Savannah Early College

Tennis Team Rules—2017 Season

PRACTICES:

  1. Players must attend practice every day. Generally, practices will be held Monday-Thursday. However, practice may be held on Fridays in order to make up for inclement weather days.
  2. Players must wear appropriate athletic attire during practices, including: tennis shoes, tee-shirts, shorts and/or sweat-type pants as appropriate for the weather conditions.
  3. Practices will be held at Bacon Park, unless otherwise stated. Sometimes the Bacon Park Courts will be used for matches and it will be necessary for us to practice at the Forest Hills Park Tennis Courts on Berskhire Road, off Skidaway Road just north of DeRenne Ave. I will try to inform parents a day ahead of time, if this is the case. However, there may be situations when this is not possible, so players will call to alert parents of any changes in the practice location.
  4. Parents may attend and watch practices. If a parent wants to earn community service hours, please let Coach Hannas know so she can provide parents with helpful duties.
  5. Spectators, friends, etc. are not allowed to attend practices.
  6. Practices will generally last 1.5 hours. For example, if we arrive at Bacon Park at 3:00 p.m., we should finish practice around 4:30 p.m.

MATCHES:

  1. Most matches will be played at Bacon Park or Daffin Park. Parents and players will be provided a schedule with the opponents, start times, and locations of the matches. If there is a change, Coach Hannas will notify players and parents as soon as possible.
  2. Players must wear the school’s tennis uniforms during matches. These uniforms may need to be shared. If this is the case, players must wash and bring the uniform to school after each match.
  3. Parents are welcome to attend matches. Please note the protocols for watching a match:
  4. Parents and spectators are to remain on the sidelines and cannot sit on the tennis court benches.
  5. Parents and spectators must refrain from coaching players. Please encourage players with polite applause after a hard fought point.
  6. It is recommended that parents and players stay with the team until all the matches are completed. If a parent does want to leave with a player, please let Coach Hannas know personally so she knows the whereabouts of the player.
  7. Matches run longer than practice and players will be expected to watch his/her teammates compete until all players have finished their matches. Generally, matches last about 2 hours. Tennis is a team sport; therefore, players need to support each other.
  8. Coach Hannas will determine who plays matches.
  9. Team members who are not scheduled to play in a match are still required to attend the matches.

TRANSPORTATION:

  1. Players will ride the SEC activity bus to and from all practices and matches (Please see Rule 9.c above for the only exception.) Because practices and matches may end at different times (weather, other conditions, coach’s determination, etc.), players will be transported as a group back to SEC HS for pick up by parents. Players may call parents upon leaving practice or matches to notify parents when they will arrive back at SEC. Please plan to pick up players promptly after our arrival at SEC.Please understand,Coach Hannas will not wait on a parent who is enroute to a tennis facility.
  2. Players will not be left at a practice or match facility to wait for pick up there by a parent.

UNIFORMS:

  1. Uniforms will be checked out to players and must be returned by the player at the end of the season. Any uniform that is not returned must be paid for. If a uniform has not been returned and has not been paid for, student records may be held for non-return or non-payment.
  2. Players are responsible for washing and maintaining the uniform throughout the season.
  3. If a player must share a uniform, the player must return the washed uniform to Coach Hannas before the next match.
