Salary:£16,572-£18,376 pro rata

Responsible to:Director of Volunteering and Training

Annual leave: 33 days inclusive of bank holidays(pro rata)

Notice:Two months

Pension:Employers contributory pension scheme (2%) for eligible employees

Aims of RESTORE

Restore works with people with mental health problems to enable them to achieve their maximum potential.

We believe that everyone has talents and abilities, and the capacity to make a valuable contribution to the community. We believe that people with mental health problems have the right to work and the right to the support they need to become and remain employed. We believe that the stigma associated with mental health problems damages the whole community and we work to challenge this discrimination.

Restore: what we do

Restore works to enable people with mental health problems to recover, develop and secure employment. We run two main services across Oxfordshire: the recovery service and the coaching service.

The recovery service supports people to work in teams running social enterprises. The teams produce plants and crafts to sell, run a café set in beautiful gardens, a vegetable delivery business and a hospital shop and café. The coaching service provides one to one support to help people improve their employability, get and keep work.

Restore is a medium sized charity. We employ about 40 staff, involve about 100 volunteers, and deliver services to about 1,000 people in Oxfordshire each year.

Overall Aims of the Post

We want to enable people with lived experience of mental health problems to become qualified MHFA instructors. An MHFA instructor is required to be qualified and accredited by MHFA England. We will fund your training, and pay you whilst you train.

This post requires a dynamic and committed person to deliver MHFA in Oxfordshire. The post will market, develop, and deliver Mental Health First Aid for Restore.

Specific Responsibilities

The Mental Health First Aid Instructor is responsible forpromoting and delivering Mental Health First Aid training.

Delivering MHFA

  • Deliver MHFA training to a high standard, enabling people to become skilled MHFAiders
  • Promote and market MHFA aiming to recruit both individuals and organisations onto MHFA courses
  • Co-ordinate MHFA bookings include arranging venue hire and catering
  • Manage the collection and reporting of MHFA data, including learner details

General Responsibilities

  • Carry out administrative duties such as date entry, record keeping, emails, course bookings and invoicing, and produce reports in line with MHFA England and funder requirements
  • Participate in, and make use of staff meetings
  • Participate in, and make use of supervision
  • Demonstrate commitment to Restore’s aims and values, addressing race, culture, gender, class, disability, sexual orientation, age and other discrimination in relation to mental health issues
  • Work with other Restore staff as part of a team
  • Attend annual Continuing Professional Development Training as required
  • Abide by all Restore policies, procedures and protocols
  • Undertake any other duties as may be required by Restore

This job description is likely to change over time, subject to discussion with the post holder, and in line with the expectation of funders and the strategy for the organisation agreed by theChief Executive and Trustees.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:Mental Health First Aid Instructor

An understanding of the sector, a commitment to Restore, and empathy with people with mental health problems is vital. Restore needs people who have the ability to cope with limited resources, seize opportunities and think creatively.

Awareness of the stigma and other issues surrounding mental illness is important, as is the ability to remain impartial, as this role may involve working in potentially sensitive areas.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The ability to deliver MHFA training
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • One to one skills and the ability to give impartial information, advice and guidance
  • Ability to communicate with, motivate and support others
  • Appropriate self-presentation for contact with different groups of people
  • Ability to write reports and keep records
  • Ability to form good effective working relationships and work as part of a team
  • Commitment to all aspects of anti-discriminatory practice
  • Willingness to travel
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends when required
  • Computer literacy
  • An MHFA instructor is required to be qualified and accredited by MHFA England. We will fund your training, and pay you whilst you train.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience of delivering training in a diverse range of topics
  • MHFA qualification
  • Experience of working in unstructured and informal settings
  • Knowledge of equal opportunities legislation including the Disability Discrimination Act
  • Personal experience of mental health issues
