School Council –Meeting

February 6th 2018

Members Present: Owen Matchim ,Jennifer Collins ,Adam, Ursula Barnes, Dawn Follett ,Barry Norman,

Welcome: Call to Order by Chair Michelle Culleton-Skanes. Review of minutes from previous meeting and adoption of this meeting’s agenda.

Business Arising:

Breakfast Program

  • Hot breakfast has been coordinated three times with 8 to 10 volunteers coming together to coordinate.
  • 6 am arrival to prep and upcoming dates are February 23rd and March 9th.
  • Sandwiches, burritos and yogurt are big hits, and looking at expanding menu in the future.
  • It is well received by those attending.

School Lunch

  • Chartwells hosts current school lunch for 5 dollars a meal.
  • Discussion around School Lunch Program being offered at Leary’s Brook, traditionally designed for schools K-6.
  • Looking into launching in September 2018 as council members see benefits in supporting non-profit, as well as the meal prices are much more affordable and the menu is a little more diverse.
  • Canteen than has more opportunities to be host without limitations.

Communication

  • School website has been updated
  • Entrance of school was suggested as being an outlet for showcasing school council connection with information to connect with members/
  • Newsletter should be geared to one page as it seems more than that as oversaturated. Administration has been doing an efficient job in this respect. Also noted was adding an upcoming section for more transparency
  • Sending out synervoiceon Sunday evenings with upcoming events was suggested.

Teacher Appreciation and Education Week

  • Takes place between February 12th to the 15th and council members will discuss ideas around activities and ideas to implement.

Principals Report;

  • Semester 2 has officially kicked off
  • Report cards to be distributed Friday March 23rd
  • Parent teacher interviews to take place on March 28th
  • Winter break is Friday February 16th and Monday February 19th.
  • Fundraiser Report ($3159.20 was raised) Up from last year’s intake
  • Kids reflect pride in helping promote and facilitate fundraisers.
  • Connect with Lark Hall about traffic controlling conditions pertaining a letter that was sent in to the school

New Business;

Dress Code/Safe & Caring School

  • Parental concern was brought forward to administration about dress code
  • Parents can connect and bring forth issues and they will be heard
  • Policy on dress code will be released once finalized through district specialists.

  • Next meeting to be held on March 6th 2018
  • Hot Breakfast February 23rd.
