ILS Report12/7/16

Nekoosa

NEK will be going live on LINKcat on January 3, 2017. They have linked almost their entire collection as of 12/6 and are in the process of reviewing patron records and deciding the best method of adding in patrons that do not already have a card from a LINKcat library.

GetIt Acquisitions

Year-end rollover work is underway. The 2016 questionnaire and year-end procedures are posted on the ILS Support Acquisitions page: Also, SCLS staff are testing a major GetIt upgrade. After the upgrade is available in our sandbox, we will ask library staff to begin testing. A production upgrade will not happen until 2017.

Koha Training and Certification

There are a number of staff that completed the full certification pathway this year. We will be sending out the certification certificates and incentives after the holidays.

Koha Annual Evaluation (and LibLime Codebase Fusion)

The Koha annual evaluation ballot will be available on December 12, 2016. Libraries will have until 5 pm on January 13, 2017 to complete the ballot. A FAQ addressing some questions on the codebase fusion will also be made available on December 12.

Bibliotheca Support

Maintenance support amounts for 2017 are being sent to libraries this week. Bibliotheca will offer any library that is interested, a zero percent increase on maintenance if the library agrees to a five year maintenance contract. Libraries will be billed for Bibliotheca maintenance as part of the 2017 SCLS bills.

Hiring Data Services Consultant
SCLS is interviewing candidates for the Data Services Consultant this week.

Digitization Project

A major component of the 2016 and 2017 LSTA grants is to assist libraries with digitization projects. We will start with the four libraries that submitted applications: Reedsburg, Monroe, Albany and Dane County. SCLS is purchasing anIndus9000 Book Scanner. This scanner will allow libraries to scan books much faster than the typical flatbed scanner. We will be able to deliver this scanner to the libraries as we got a version that is portable and it will have a cart. Libraries will borrow it for several months. We will also be purchasing flatbed scanners for libraries to use for smaller projects.

We are working on a solution for libraries to do proper archival storage of their digitized materials. Most likely, this will involve external storage drives that will be rotated to SCLS for offsite backup storage. We are also working on additional storage options.

Any library that has an eligible digitization project may participate in the Recollection Wisconsin hosting solution which is offered by the Milwaukee Public Library. SCLS will pay the startup fee. WPLC pays the ongoing support costs. The first four libraries that submitted an application will be the first to participate in this service. At some point, we will open the application to additional libraries.

Finally, we will be hiring a Limited Term employee to train libraries on best practices for digitization and the creation of metadata for Recollection Wisconsin. After the first four projects are underway, the digitization assistant will work with any interested library to help them assess what should be digitized.
