Historical moment for the State of California, Los Angles City Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Office Proclaims- April Military Child Month!

The event occurred on April 23 at 10:00 – noon. Location of event was at Bob Hope Patriotic Hall in Los Angeles. There were approximately 80 people in attendance including 20 children.

The event was “Support Military Kids April is Military Child Month”- Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Office, Los Angeles Unified School District- Health and Human Services, Military Childrens Collaborative Group, USC CIR School of Social Work, Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative/Family & Childrens Group and USC Building Capacity together hosted this special event.

The audience included military families, educators, community leaders, military youth coordinators, nonprofits, and government agencies we all in attendance.

Debbie Nichols from Military Childrens Collaborative Group and Dr. Deborah Hayes were the Co Hosts for the event. Navy Veteran Philip Willems a song writer and singer performed two songs about the commitment to serving our Country and loved ones.

6th grade child Keynote speaker Alyse Rabb shared “My Life as a Military Child”. During the event, there was a ceremony acknowledging all the children in the audience. Thanking the children for their sacrifice and silently serving our Country. A Presentation of Proclamations, where the Proclamations from the City of Los Angeles, California Congress, California Senate, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor Proclaiming April Military Child Month. Army Veteran Carla Cavalier read each Proclamation.

Dr. Ron Astor USC spoke sharing ways to support military children.

The children were presented with personalized certificates from LA City Mayors Office and California Senate and Military Childrens Collaborative Group “Recognition certificates acknowledging children. The children also received a gift cards donated from United Holsom United Methodist Church, and 20th Century Fox Rio backpacks with Mr. Peabody eyeglasses. Refreshments were served
