Course Description:

Historical development and its impact upon world cultures are central themes of World History. This course will cover history from the “Great Convergence” (1450 CE) to the present. Cultural emphasis is placed upon literature, art, architecture, music, religion and philosophy. Historical emphasis is placed upon such areas as comparative political, economic and social systems. Contemporary emphasis is placed upon current crises, international relations and the increasing interdependence of nations. Concepts stressed throughout the course are the same as those employed by all social scientists: critical thinking, analysis and interpretation. From a balanced and inclusive world history course students may gain an appreciation both of the world’s many peoples and of their shared humanity and common problems.

Classroom Procedures for Routines:

1.  Students will enter the classroom quickly and quietly, sit in their assigned seats, and immediately write down the homework assignment, and begin bell work. (Students should be seated and working when the tardy bell rings.) IF YOU ARE NOT IN YOUR SEAT WHEN THE TARDY BELL RINGS, YOU WILL BE COUNTED TARDY.

2.  Students will complete all assignments in the time allotted. (Students who finish early should begin designated “early finisher” activities.) All assignments must be properly headed with name, date, period, and title, have no frayed edges, and written in blue or black ink.

3.  Homework should be turned in on time.

4.  Students will be expected to make up any missed work, due to excused absences, within 5 days. Students should ask the teacher for their makeup work during Titan Time or before or after school. If you are absent on a test day, be ready to take a make-up test the day you return. Make-up work is the student’s responsibility. If a student fails to complete make-up work (including tests and quizzes) within 5 days, he/she will receive a zero for missed assignments. It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher if he/she does not understand the assignments.

5.  Students should NOT ask for or complete make up work during class time. This should be done before or after school and/or during Titan Time.

6.  When the teacher gives the designated signal for attention, students will stop what they are doing and silently give the signal until everyone is quiet and the teacher begins to speak.

7.  Students will raise their hands and wait to be called on before speaking or leaving their seats.

8.  NO PASSES WILL BE ALLOWED DURING THE FIRST AND LAST 10 MINUTES OF CLASS. There will be NO locker passes. Come to class prepared.

9.  Students will be allowed restroom passes at the discretion of the teacher subject to restrictions by the principal. If you have a medical condition that requires frequent restroom use, a note must be on file in the nurse’s office.

10.  Students will quietly stop all work when the signal for announcements sounds. There should be NO talking during announcements.

11.  The teacher, not the bell, will dismiss the class.

12.  If you need extra help or have questions about make up work, meet with your teacher during Titan Time or make an appointment to meet before or after school. Do NOT expect the teacher to be available every day before and after school.

Class Rule:

You can do anything you want in this class, provided it doesn’t cause a problem for anyone else in the classroom.

If this rule is violated, consequences will be given on an individual basis. Every situation is a unique case, and every student is a unique individual.

Grading Procedures:

Nine-week grades will be based on a ratio of the number of points earned out of the number of possible points. (Total Points earned/ Total Points possible x 100 = Your Grade.) Students and parents will be able to access their grades from Clarity.
