FULL BIOGRAPHY

Lisa Posthumus Lyons is a life-long resident of Kent County where she’s serving her first time as County Clerk / Register of Deeds. The Clerk’s office is responsible for three major functions of county government; managing all County elections; to manage vital County records such as birth, death, marriage and business registrations; and to process and maintain all Circuit Court files. In Kent County, the Clerk is also the Register of Deeds who records all documents pertaining to real property in Kent County, including deeds, mortgages, land contracts, liens and other documents pertaining to real estate. The Clerk is also the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners, and statutorily serves on numerous County boards and commissions.

Prior to her election as Clerk in 2016, Lisa Posthumus Lyons served the state Representative for the 86th District, representing portions of Kent and Ionia Counties in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2011 through 2016.

A strong voice for our West Michigan values, as a legislator, Lisa Lyons worked to reform and modernize state government on behalf of Michigan’s hardworking taxpayers. In the House, Lisa championed legislation to reform our state’s property tax and education systems and is proud to have supported reforms that have helped Michigan’s economy turn the corner from the lost decade.
While serving in the legislature, Lisa served on the following House committees: Education (chair), Elections (chair), Financial Liability Reform, Financial Services, Insurance, Natural Resources, and Tax Policy.

As the former chairwoman of the House Elections Committee, Lisa worked closely with the Secretary of State, our local clerks, and elections administrators to modernize Michigan’s election equipment and strengthen campaign finance law.

Among her key efforts were broadening secure access to absentee ballot options, leading the fight to secure funding to replace our state's aging voter equipment, and further consolidating Michigan’s low-turnout election dates to conserve taxpayer resources.

A graduate of Michigan State University, Lisa was the Director of Public Policy & Community Outreach for the Grand Rapids Association of REALTORS and the Commercial Alliance of REALTORS prior to holding elected office. She also served as Vice Chair of the Kent County Republican Party during the 2016 election cycle.

Lisa and her husband Brad, a Kent County Sheriff’s deputy, were Lowell High School sweethearts and are raising their four children on the family’s fourth generation farm in Alto. The Lyons family worships at Ada Bible Church and greatly enjoys hunting, fishing, and all Pure Michigan activities.
