A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO OUR DEAR FRIEND, JOE PINNER OF RICHLAND COUNTY, FOR HIS MANY REMARKABLE DEEDS OF PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE PALMETTO STATE AND TO RECOGNIZE HIM FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS AS AN ADVOCATE FOR HUMANITY.
Whereas, Joe Pinner has been part of the family at WIS Television for over thirtyeight years and has served the station and the City of Columbia in a variety of ways since joining WIS in 1963; and
Whereas, Joe Pinner began his career in broadcasting at radio stations in New Bern and Morehead City, North Carolina, when he was fifteen years old; after graduating from high school, he attended the University of North Carolina and worked at the Chapel Hill radio station WCHL; and he later returned home to New Bern to continue his broadcasting career; and
Whereas, Joe proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years. During his tenure of military service he was stationed at Fort Jackson, where he managed the Armed Forces Radio station WFJX; and
Whereas, besides his work as a broadcaster, Joe Pinner is involved in many activities around the State and nation including being narrator and Master of Ceremonies for the youth concerts of the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, serves on the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Board of Directors, the Palmetto Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and the Board of Power of Positive Students (POPS) International Foundation in Myrtle Beach; and
Whereas, Joe is a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood where he lends his vocal talents to the church choir; and
Whereas, in 1967, he received the National George Foster Peabody Award for his work on The Knozit Show. In 1976, the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce presented the South Carolina Tourism Award to him for his contributions to the growth and development of the tourism industry in South Carolina. In 1983, the South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department honored him with the State Tourism Award. Two South Carolina Governors, Richland Riley and Carroll Campbell, have presented him with the Order of Palmetto, the highest honor bestowed on a citizen of the Palmetto State; and
Whereas, it is fitting for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to honor and thank Joe Pinner for the positive impact he has had on the lives of thousands of citizens, young and old, throughout our great State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina hereby express appreciation to their dear friend, Joe Pinner of Richland County, for his many remarkable deeds of public service to the Palmetto State and to recognize him for his outstanding contributions as an advocate for humanity.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Joe Pinner.
