Welcome to the fourth year of trap at Westonka! We had successful spring and fall seasons last year finishing 3rd in our conference and are pleased to be able to offer trap again. This is a 6th Grade to 12th Grade School Sport that started in Minnesota in 2001 and will challenge you to be the best you can be at the sport of trap shooting. This sport is affiliated with the MN State High School Clay Target League ( and will follow their rules and regulations. Please review them carefully. Additionally, we will be subject to the school’s academic and chemical use policies.

We can accommodate a maximum of 45shooters on the team for the 2016fall season. If there are more than 45 shooters who register for the team, we will use the following guidelines (by coach’s discretion):

  1. Past team member (spring or fall)
  2. Seniors
  3. Girls
  4. By grade until reaching 45

Scores will be posted online for virtual competition against other schools in the state every Saturday night. There will be a mandatory safety meeting Tuesday,September 20, 2015 at 5:30pm at the Minnetonka Sportsmen Club followed by practice rounds. The season startsSeptember 20 with practice rounds and continue with 5competition weeks ending on TuesdayOctober 25 (see schedule on the web page). Each shoot will consist of two rounds of 25 clays.

Items required to participate are:

  • Firearms Safety Certificate (school needs printed copy of card or from DNR web site) – NOT REQUIRED FOR PAST SHOOTERS!
  • Fee paid and MSHSL eligibility forms (sports physical not required) completed through the school “Fee Pay” system
  • Parent permission (electronic signature on trap league web site) – NOT REQUIRED FOR SPRING 2015 SHOOTERS! Coach Hanratty needs to enter your shooters name before you do this! He will send you additional instructions.
  • Hearing and eye protection
  • 12ga or 20ga shotgun

Shells and Clay Targets are included in your registration fee ($160) and will be provided at the range.

Absolutely NO GUNS will be allowed on District #277 property. Although we have several volunteers from the MSC who will help oversee each shoot, we will encourage parents to participate fully in each shoot to make sure this remains the safest high school sport in the state! We are looking forward to a great fall season!!
