TROOP 299 OUTING INFORMATION

WHAT: 17th Annual “Scouting Ski Days” with Great Trail Council BSA and Boston Mills and Brandywine

Ski Resorts.

WHERE: We will be cabin camping at Great Trail Council BSA Camp Butler and skiing or snowboarding at Brandywine Ski Resort near Peninsula, OH. (Peninsula is near Akron in northeast Ohio). Maps for drivers will be available to both Camp Butler and Brandywine Ski Resort.

WHEN: Meet at IRUMC at 5:00 PM, on Friday, February 13th. Plan to depart camp by mid-morning and return to Dublin by early afternoon on Sunday, February 15th. We plan to be at the slopes by 9:00 AM Saturday morning.

FOOD: Dinner Friday evening will be “on the road.” The troop will provide a continental breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings. Cafeteria food service is available at Brandywine for lunch Saturday noon. Lockers are available for those who would like to “brown bag” their lunch. We’ll eat dinner at a local restaurant Saturday evening. Bring extra cash for meals Friday evening, Saturday noon, and Saturday evening.

GEAR: Besides what is recommended in your Scout Handbook for overnight camping, bring gear appropriate for skiing or snowboarding – inner wicking layer, middle insulating layer, and weatherproof outer layer, gloves or mittens, hat, socks, sunglasses and strap, helmet, and sunscreen. Cotton fabrics, including jeans and street clothes, are not appropriate for skiing or snowboarding. Gear will be discussed in more detail during February troop meetings.

FEES: Fees are $12.00 per person for cabin camping and include the use of the cabin and restrooms, indoor sleeping space, and breakfast and $1.00 for a special Scout Tag for each day of skiing or snowboarding and entitles you to purchase the Scouting Ski Days Special Package at Brandywine Ski Resort. The cabin camping and Scout Tag fees are payable by cash, scout account, or check payable to “Boy Scout Troop 299.” The fee for skiing or snowboarding is $40 / skiing or $45 / snowboarding per person per day. This includes an all day lift ticket for skiing or snowboarding, rental of skis, boots, and poles or a snowboard (if needed) and beginner skiing or snowboarding group lessons (if needed). The fee for skiing or snowboarding is payable by cash or check payable to “Brandywine Ski Resort.” Helmets are required, but not included in the fee, and are not available for rental at the resort. There is no adjustment in fees available if you have your own equipment or do not want lessons. Brandywine is a sister resort to Mad River Mountain and any season pass discounts to sister resorts apply.

MERIT If you are interested in pursuing merit badge requirements for the Snow Sports Merit Badge

BADGE: (downhill only) please see Mr. Sherman. We need to make additional arrangements with Brandywine Ski Resort. An additional cost of $15.00 per person applies and merit badge requirement lessons will be scheduled. The fee for skiing or snowboarding is payable by cash or check payable to “Brandywine Ski Resort.”

HELMETS: An approved helmet is required by Troop 299 to participate in this outing. Helmets are not available for rental at the resort. Plan to borrow, purchase, or rent a helmet locally before departure Friday evening.

LODGING AND SCOUT TAG FEES ARE BY PAYABLE BY CASH, SCOUT ACCOUNT OR CHECK PAYABLE TO “BOY SCOUT TROOP 299.”

SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING FEES ARE PAYABLE AT THE SKI RESORT BY CASH OR CHECK PAYABLE TO “BRANDYWINE SKI RESORT.”

An approved helmet is required by Troop 299 to participate in this outing and is not available for rental at the resort. Plan to borrow, purchase, or rent a helmet locally before departure Friday evening.

I, the undersigned, give my permission for my child listed below to attend the

SNOW SPORTS OUTING – SKIING OR SNOWBOARDING, and participate in all scheduled activities with BSA Troop 299 for the dates of FEBRUARY 13 - 15, 2009. If necessary, I understand every effort will be made to contact me (if an adult, spouse or next of kin). In the event I cannot be reached, I hereby give my permission to the physician selected by the adult leader in charge to secure proper treatment, including, hospitalization, anesthesia, surgery, or injections of medication for my child (or for me if an adult). To the fullest extent permitted by law, the below signed shall indemnify and hold harmless BSA Troop 299, it's sponsoring agent, adult leaders, and others associated with the planned activity from any and all claims, damages, losses and expenses, including but not limited to attorney's fees, arising out of or resulting from accident or injury to the above mentioned participant during the activity.
