JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
Happy Holidays! We will begin Jump Rope for Heart again this year in February. The students will be jumping in their Physical Education classes and will be encouraged to collect money for the organization only if they can. Thank you so much for your help and support of this wonderful cause over the years! More information will be coming in the new year.
SPELLING BEE WINNER
We congratulate Herschel Hoffeditz who was the Spelling Bee winner for our school on Friday, December 2nd.
Rex Fritz will be the alternate. Herschel will compete in the Rockingham County Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 7 p.m. It will be at Wilbur Pence Middle School in the auditorium. If there is inclement weather and they need to reschedule, it would be Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the same location. We wish him luck as he represents Plains Elementary School.
SMENCILS AND MORE SMENCILS!!!
We now have Finding Dory, Sports, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Frozen, Inside Out, and regular Smencils! Holiday Smencils are now on sale! There are a variety of scents. They are $1 each. Send money with your child to the office or stop by. More styles/scents to come throughout the year.
CAFETERIA NEWS
As “Old Man Winter” rears his head we can expect to experience some changes in our school schedule (cancelations/delays). When this occurs please check the school homework page for changes made to the menu. I try not to change the menu if at all possible; however at times it cannot be avoided.
Also remember that if school is on a delayed schedule breakfast will still be served. Please remind children that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Please check backpacks to be sure that your child/children turn in their lunch money when sent. All lunch money should have the student’s name on it so that it is credited to the right account. Charge notices will be sent the first day of each week by paper or e-mail. Please pay charges in a timely manner. If your child was full paying or reduced and became free, please remember that those charges are still your responsibility. If you think you qualify for free or reduced meals and have not filled out an application; please do so.
The Food Service staff would like to wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy Winter break.

Cafeteria Manager
A NOTE FROM THE CLINIC
As we look ahead to holiday celebrations that come this time of year it is important to remember that food allergies are a big concern for those sharing food or treats for holiday parties. Classroom celebrations put an emphasis on children rather than food but food is a part of many cultural celebrations. Let's make sure we take advantage of these times to share food that is healthy as well as food that is allergen free for classmates with severe allergies. (Most commonly, NUT allergies) In regard to nut free snacks, here is a list that may be helpful. No list is absolute and companies can change ingredients or procedures, always read labels first: FRUIT, CHOCOLATE TEDDY GRAHAMS, ROLD GOLD PRETZELS, MINI OREOS, NUTRIGRAIN BARS- (APPLE & BLUEBERRY), CHEESE AND CRACKERS, BAKED LAYS POTATO CHIPS, RICE KRISPIE TREATS.
SAVE! SAVE! SAVE!
Please continue to save your Box Tops and Campbell’s Soup Labels during the school year. We receive monetary donations from the Box Tops. Thank you in advance for supporting Plains Elementary School!
