About the Sauk Prairie FFA

·  The Sauk Prairie FFA is a part of the Sauk Prairie School Districts Agriculture & Natural Resources Education Department and is located in the villages of Sauk City and Prairie du Sac.

·  The Sauk Prairie FFA is the largest student extra-curricular organization in Sauk Prairie High School with over 100 members.

·  Sauk Prairie FFA members participate in over seventy activities throughout the year. This includes activities during the summer months.

·  FFA activities are geared around the three areas of the National Chapter Program: Student Development, Chapter Development, and Community Development.

·  The 130+ member FFA Alumni Association support the FFA chapter and Agricultural Education classes by serving as classroom presenters, chaperones, and financial assistance. In 2009, the Sauk Prairie FFA Alumni raised nearly $40,000 for agricultural education!

About the Wisconsin Association of FFA

·  The Wisconsin Association of FFA prepares rural and urban students for careers in agriculture by providing opportunities to develop career skills and learn from the leaders of our state’s diverse agriculture industry.

·  The Wisconsin Association of FFA is the largest career and technical student organization in the state with more than 17,700 members.

·  The Wisconsin Association of FFA is composed of 250 chapters with strong agricultural education programs across the state in both rural and urban school districts.

·  The Wisconsin FFA Alumni Association is the largest Alumni Association in the nation, with more than 8,350 members who continue to support agricultural education throughout their adult lives.

About the National FFA Organization

·  The National FFA Organization is composed of 506,199 FFA members from 7,429 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA members range from 12 to 21 years of age.

·  FFA chapters can be found in 11 of our nation’s 20 largest cities, including New York City, Chicago and Philadelphia.

·  Agricultural education is the practical application of all core subjects, combining math, science, English and social studies in real‐world, hands‐on situations. A school must have an agricultural education program in order to have an FFA chapter.

·  More than 10,000 agriculture teachers deliver innovative, cutting‐edge and integrated curriculum as they develop the next generation of agricultural leaders.

·  Collectively, FFA members earn $4 billion annually through their self‐developed projects called Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs. Students’ SAE programs allow them to apply classroom instruction and leadership gained through FFA as they explore careers and develop professional skills.

About Wisconsin Agriculture

·  Agriculture is Wisconsin’s signature industry, generating more than $59 billion in economic activity.

·  According to the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, agriculture accounts for 353,991 jobs or 10 percent of our state’s total workforce.

·  Wisconsin’s dairy industry contributes $26 billion to our state’s economy. Wisconsin ranks no. 1 in the nation for cheese production and Wisconsin cheesemakers produce over 600 types, styles and varieties of cheese.

·  In addition to a robust dairy industry, Wisconsin is the top state for the production of many other foods, including cranberries, snap beans and ginseng.
