Content:
Social Studies Content for the 11th grade will primarily focus on American History covering content from Building a Nation (Colonization – ca. 1877), through Rebuilding a Nation (– ca. 1914) and Challenges at Home and Abroad (ca. 1914-1945), to America since World War II (1945 to present). Within the context of a historical framework we will also study geography, culture, economics, and government.
Assessment:
Student learning will be assessed through homework, quizzes, formative questioning, a social studies notebook, unit tests, in-class work, and projects.
· The social studies notebook is of primary importance for the student. There will be a daily entry into the social studies notebook consisting of at least a bellringer, agenda, outcome, and homework for that day.
· The social studies notebook will be collected every 20 days of class time. This assignment is worth 100 points for the student.
· The information contained within the notebook will provide the student with the material that will be covered on the unit tests.
· Throughout the year there will be additional in-class assignments and homework assignments. The average in-class or homework assignment is worth 25 points
· In-class projects average 50 points as well as quizzes.
· My goal is to have the student have numerous assignments during the grading period; therefore there is always ample opportunity to improve your grade.
· In any assignment there is always the opportunity to earn extra credit by doing quality work.
• All grades will be 50% formative and 50% summative for the entire year.
