2.2METALS

  1. Steel:
  2. Pipe:ASTMA53, TypeF or TypeS, GradeA.
  3. Plate, Shapes and Bars: ASTMA36.
  4. Recycled Content of Steel Products: Postconsumer recycled content plus one-half of preconsumer recycled content not less than 25 percent.
  5. Powder-Coat Finish: AAMA2603 except with a minimum dry film thickness of 1.5 mils. Comply with coating manufacturer's written instructions.

Normally choose Type 304 or Grade TP 304 stainless, except when the extra corrosion resistance of Type 316 or Grade TP 316L is required, such as in marine environments or near swimming pools.

Composite tubing combines the weight and strength of carbon steel with the look and corrosion resistance of stainless steel. It is available for some models; contact Reliance Foundry.

  1. Composite Tubing: Composed of the following two layers:
  2. Outer Layer: Seamless stainless steel tube, 0.3 to 1.1 mm, [Type 304][Type 316].
  3. Inner Layer: Carbon steel welded tube, Q195, Q235, or Q235SPCC.
  4. Finish: Directional Satin Finish No. 4.

2.3ACCESSORIES

  1. Mounting Accessories
  2. Epoxy adhesive: As recommended in writing by adhesive manufacturer for outdoor use with concrete and galvanized steel.

Standard nuts are provided with bicycle racks. Where racks may be vulnerable to vandalism or theft, consider using optional security fasteners. With security fasteners, coordinate with Part 1 Maintenance Material Submittals.

2.4FABRICATION

  1. Fabricate units with welded connections.
  2. Fabricate connections that will be exposed to weather in a manner to exclude water. Provide weep holes where water may accumulate.
  3. Provide inserts and other anchorage devices for connectingbicycle racks to substrate.
  4. Protectfinishesfrom damagebefore shipping.
  5. Provide exposed [fasteners][accessories]with finish matching appearance, including color, ofbicycle racks.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

  1. Examine paving or other substrates for compliance with manufacturer’s requirements for placement and location of embedded items, condition of substrate, and other conditions affecting installation of bicycle racks.
  2. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2INSTALLATION

Drawing Coordination: Ensure that bicycle racks, when in use, do not impede required paths of egress and accessible travel. Allow adequate clearance for bicycle storage and removal.

  1. General: Comply with manufacturer’s installation requirements and setting drawings.
  2. Install according to manufacturer's written instructions for specified setting method.
  3. Damaged, cracked, chipped, deformed or marred bicycleracks are not acceptable. Field touch-up minor imperfections in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3.3CLEANING

  1. Immediately prior to Substantial Completion, clean racksin accordance with manufacturer’s instructions to remove dust, dirt, adhesives, and other foreign materials.

3.4PROTECTION

  1. Protect bicycle racks against damage.
