New ABB workshop extends life for

low voltage circuit breakers

A new dedicated facility for the service and repair of low voltage breakers has been set up by ABB at its factory in Stone, Staffordshire, offering customers the chance to extend the working life of their equipment.

The new 252 m2 workshop provides all the overhaul, test and refurbishment facilities needed to support customers’ low voltage breakers, whether from ABB or other manufacturers. ABB field service engineers are based at the workshop, carrying out service tasks both at the workshop itself and at customer sites.

Mark Clegg, Sales Manager for low voltage breakers service in the UK, says: “Our growing reputation for quality of service means that today we have around a thousand customers, many of them from data centres, hospitals and other critical sites that need to minimise disruption to their operations. The new facility will allow even more circuit breaker users to benefit from our service expertise.”

Life cycle services on offer for low voltage breakers include planned preventive maintenance, carried out at a customer’s site. The workshop provides a detailed report on the condition of equipment requiring repair and makes recommendations on parts replacement and restoration to original specifications.

Complete refurbishment of breakers is a service also offered by ABB, returning them to their original ‘good as new’ condition. Mechanical components are thoroughly cleaned before being reassembled to original specification, using original alignments and tooling. Components are analysed and replaced with a new item if not possible. ABB provides a full year warranty covering any new parts used.

Clegg continues: “Refurbishing or repair of circuit breakers is an economical alternative to purchasing new parts. As well as ensuring the breaker maintains its original performance, our services extend the life of the circuit breaker.”

Retrofits can also be performed to improve electrical and mechanical performance, while the workshop also holds a stock of spares for both current and phased out products.

Other workshop services include routine maintenance, repairs and replacements, testing and training.

The complete life cycle maintenance of breakers on site or in ABB’s workshop ensures that unplanned and expensive outages are minimised. Planned replacement or refurbishment of breakers can be achieved at a convenient time for the customer.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 124,000 people.
