Ms. Leffingwell Says Words
Force- A push, or a pull (push with hands and pull back with hands)
Speed-How fast I go over time (run in place)
Motion- change in position over time (clap)
Gravity- gravity pulls objects towards each other (hug yourself)
Inertia- going, going, gone (hand like a visor over forehead)
Friction- irk, slow it down (pull the break)
Energy-moving and changing (wiggle)
Kinetic energy-run, jump, skip, roller coasters (do those things. For roller coaster move your arm in a wavy line)
Potential energy- it has the possibility to move (hands to side and stand still)
Question-what I want to know (hands out)
Hypothesis- I think (fingers to head)
Plan-Step by step (takes steps and click fingers)
Observation- I use my 5 senses (show 5 fingers)
Conclusion- I found out (finger to side of mouth)
Inference- based on my observations, I think (hand on hip)
Constant- same
Variable –changes
Light Energy- now I can see and plants can eat (make glasses with hands and rub belly)
Sound Energy- crash, bang, boom, clang, AHHHHH
Electrical Energy-anything that runs off of electricity
Thermal Energy-temperature is a measure of heat energy (clap and repeat x2)
Solar Energy-It comes from the sun (arms out, head back)
Conductor- Metals work well (x2) (Clap)
Insulators-surrounds the conductor (arms in a ring over head)
Energy—moving and changing (move your body and arms)
Circuit—chug a chug a choochoo (walk in a circle)
Current—steady flow (move arm in a steady flow)
Load—powered by electricity (clap)
Power source—outlets and batteries, outlets and batteries
Switch—Open, close, open, close
Positive and Negative terminal—out the negative and into the positive (show with finger)
Electron—negative (make negative sign with your finger)
Open circuit—(make a u with your arms)
Closed circuit—(make an o with your arms)
Parallel Circuit—multiple paths multiple loads (show multiple fingers for each)
Series Circuit—one path multiple loads (show one finger then multiple fingers)
Conductor—metals work well (clap)
Insulator—surrounds the conductor (show with arms)
Natural Resources—It’s in nature and we use it.
Renewable Resources—the earth makes more.
Nonrenewable Resources—Once I use it it’s gone
Energy Resources—(Run in place.) They give things energy.
Refraction—when my finger is in the water it looks broken (show with fingers)
Reflection—the light bounces back and now I can see myself (make a mirror with your arms)
