Teaching Staff – TIME IN LIEU POLICY
Rationale:
A teaching staff member may be required to undertake work in addition to her or his ordinary hours of employment. In such circumstances, the teaching staff member shall be granted time off in lieu equivalent to the additional time worked, PROVIDED THAT prior approval has been granted for the additional time worked.
Areas of Duty covered by Time in Lieu:
- Required Attendance at Camps to support students – Claimable hours shall be 7.6 hours for each whole day or part thereof for camps and excursions that run for less than a day.
- Special Events - where teaching staff are requested to perform duties, (but not if an employee chooses to volunteer their services) at events such as:
- Parent/Teacher Interviews
- P.S.G. Meetings (after hours)
- Information/Orientation Nights
- Professional Development attendance on Non-working Days.
- Regular activities – where attendance by a teaching staff member is beneficial to College operations
- Compulsory attendance at Meetings
- Peak work output times, e.g. Presentation Night Preparation, fundraising events.
Process:
- Request for time in lieu are to be made directly to the principal and in consultation with the daily organiser.
- The principal will make a decision based on options that cause the least disruption to the educational program of the school.
- A formal reply to your request will be made within three working days of it being lodged with the principal.
- Request for time in lieu should be planned as far ahead of time as possible with a minimum notification time of two weeks.
Allocation of Time in Lieu:
- Time in lieu shall be negotiated between employee and the Campus Principal so as not to affect the effective operation of the College, taking into consideration the wishes of the teaching staff member, but where time in lieu remains outstanding from the previous school year, it must be cleared by June 30th.
