COACH TRIP BOLSTERSTONE

Today’s walks in south west Yorkshire, are mainly in and around the steep sided valley of the Little Don River, with the ‘A’ party starting from Penistone, the ‘B’ doing a clockwise route from Bolsterstone and the ‘C’s from Langsett, and all finishing in Bolsterstone. Nearby Stocksbridge is the site of the large Samuel Fox steelworks. During the war the Underbank Res. was used by the Luftwaffe bombers as a turning point for their run back to Sheffield!! It is assumed that the usual choice of refreshments will be available. (P.S.Do not miss seeing yourself, in glorious colour, in the slide show at the A.G.M.).

A WALK STRENUOUS LINEAR 16 MILES

A huge variety of walking terrain and views, plus the option of showing our expertise on clambering over stiles. The good parts of the walk have been cribbed form Martin H. Let it be said that we did not choose the finish. We enjoyed the beer, but not the final climb, all is forgiven Brian L! We shall not moan again about the climbs at the end of your walks. Let’s hope for a lovely clear day like the recce and we will need to get a move on due to the fading sun. Leaders David andChristina

B WALK MODERATE CIRCULAR 9/10 MILES

The walk leaves Bolsterstone in an easterly direction via Hollin Hill before dropping down to Hollin Hall. There is a short distance to walk on the A6102 (good footpath), before turning west along the sides of More Hall Reservoir and Broomhead Reservoir to Broomhead Hall. Another short road walk leads us to Ewden Bridge. Turning back towards Bolsterstone we find the only climb of the day, with fine views of the above reservoirs. Leaders Richard and Nancy

C WALK EASY LINEAR 7 MILES

We start our walk at Langsett reservoir and then join the Barnsley Boundary Trail, which at one point has a “lavada” running alongside! Crossing over the dam wall at the head of Underbank reservoir, we continue along the shore line to a sailing club/outward bound centre. We then ascend 400ft. up to Wind Hill farm with great views, over field paths and more roads to Bolsterstone. Leaders Stuart and Paddy
