What is the LongmontCultiva Youth Project?

The Longmont Cultiva Youth Projectis a youth leadership program in which youth ages 14-18 operate an urban organic farm, growing food for the Longmont community while developing leadership and job skills. As a member of the Farm Crew, you’ll seed, tend and harvest organic produce for Growing Gardens’ Food Project, which provides fresh, healthy vegetables to community members in need. Throughout the summer, Farm Crew members deepen connections with our community by engaging in volunteer projects, and by gleaning and donating produce.

This hands-on farm experience teaches participants about the importance of caring for the earth while learning how to grow their own food, work in a professional environment and create positive change for the community, the environment, and themselves. Farm Crew members are empowered to make decisions about many aspects of the program. Youth are encouraged to participate in project administration, public relations, and community education, as well as farm work and community service projects.

The Food Project Farm is a joint project of Growing Gardens and the YMCA of Boulder Valley. The farm is located at 950 Lashley St.and is easily accessed by bus, bike, car or walking.
