How to enter

Entry Form

All Entry Forms (see attached) must be fully completed and submitted to:-

Maximum of 24 pairs (48 athletes) so please respond promptly to secure a place

Closing date: -12md on Friday 25th May incomplete forms will be returned to relevant Head Coaches and individuals will not be entered into the competition until the form is rectified. Only one form per club will be accepted.

Entries will only be accepted after this deadline with prior agreement from Jackie Wardell who will authorize the admission of late entries.

Entry Fee

The entry fee for this competition will be £5 per athlete and fees must be paid by 5pm onFriday 25th May 2018

We have parking for 20 cars.

Accommodation

Competitors and families staying overnight - we can advise on hotel accommodation in the local area.

Catering

There is no cafe on site however we will provide tea and coffee and bacon/sausage buns for a small cost

PACKED LUNCHES can be eaten in the Youth Centre which is adjacent to the sports hall. There will be no scheduled lunch break athletes will need to eat in between their games

Transport / Road links

Railway link to Saltburn is available. You will need transport from the rail station to venue approximately 3 miles Main road access to the venue would be A19from the North or South, A174 to Saltburn, but follow signs for SKELTON.

Medical Services

Staff and volunteers with First Aid at Work certification (Keith Wilcox) will be on site. Telephone access for emergency services will be available throughout the competition.

It is the Head Coaches responsibility to ensure that all individuals attending the competition as part of their squad complete a Health Information Form. The Head Coach must keep a copy of this on them at all times during the competition.

Insurance

The event is covered by third party liability insurance, through Special Olympics GB.

Photos/Videos

The standard Special Olympics GB Athlete & Unified Partner Release Form gives Special Olympics GB permission to use an athlete/unified partners’ name and any photos taken of them in the press or for publicity to promote Special Olympics. If this permission has not been given for an athlete/unified partner, it is the responsibility of the Head Coach to notify the Event Manager in advance so that appropriate action can be taken.

Eligibility Information

Athlete/Unified Partner eligibility

All athletes/unified partners entering a Special Olympics competition must:

  • Be at least 8 years old on the start date of the competition
  • Have been diagnosed as having an intellectual disability (i.e. they meet the Special Olympics GB eligibility criteria). This is not applicable to unified partners
  • Have a current active SAM registration
  • Have completed sufficient training (see the Competition Advancement Pathway)
  • Be technically capable of competing at the level of competition that they are entering
  • Abide by the Athlete & Unified Partner’s Code of Conduct at all times

Volunteer (Coach/Escort) eligibility

Lead coaches/volunteers who are travelling with a delegation and fulfilling a specific role should be registered with Special Olympics GB

The registration process includes:

  • Completion of the Special Olympics GB registration process
  • Compliance with the DBS/PVG requirements
  • Compliance with the Volunteers Code of Conduct

Volunteers should meet the minimum age requirement of 16 on the date of the Opening Ceremony. Volunteers who are 16 & 17 years of age should only be assigned to fulfill supervised roles

Head Coaches

Head Coaches must be appointed by their relevant Special Olympics GB Club and are required to attend Head Coaches meetings which will be held as stated in the above programme. Head Coaches are also responsible for submitting all of the forms relating to the competition and checking that all individualsare entered in to the correct events. (Head Coaches should keep a photocopy of every form that is submitted.). They are also responsible for managing their squad during the competition and where appropriate are allowed to provide assistance to players lacking basic skills/knowledge with order of play, but will not be allowed to provide tactical advice

Athlete to Volunteer (Coach/Escort) ratio

There is no maximum ratio of Athletes to Volunteers (coach/escorts) for this event.

Sports Specific Information

Competition Format

This will be a PAIRS competition,Divisoned and held on a round robin basis

It is anticipated that each tie will last no longer than 20 minutes finishing when all 4 athletes have played the Jack ball. It will not be a timed event.

Ranking/rating athletes/teams

An individual ratings/skills test available on the SOGB website will be required for each athlete.

Sports Rules

The competition will run in accordance with Article 1 of the Special Olympics Sports Rules, the current Official Special Olympics Sports Rules and National Governing Body (NGB) Rules. Two points for a win, 1 for a draw 0 for a loss. Placings will be decided on point’s difference,if still equal placings will be shared.

For lower division players designated coaches/escorts will be allowed to assist players lacking basic skills/knowledge with order of play, but will not be allowed to provide tactical advice.

Maximum Effort Rule

Coaches must ensure that competitors participate honestly and with maximum effort in all divisioning and/or final competition as per Article 1 of the Special Olympics Sports Rules (section J). Individuals who are identified as not participating to their full potential with the intent of being placed in a lower division will be disqualified from the competition (for some events, considerations may however be made by the Event Manager to allow for variation caused by e.g. unfamiliar surroundings).

Divisioning

Divisioning will be based initially on the skill level identified on the entry form

Uniform, clothing and equipment

All competitors must be appropriately dressed, club/ regional / uniform and flat soled shoes. Head Coaches are reminded that competition uniform must be in accordance to the regulations as per the Special Olympics General Rules (Section 5.08).*some relaxation will be allowed for those entering for the first time or who are not seeking qualification for the National Games.

Officials decisions

At all times the Officials decision are final and all individuals must respect all Officials as well as opponents in an appropriate manner.

Recording results

Games results will be recorded by each designated official after each end. At the end of the game the result is finalized, one athlete from each of the teams playing, must sign and agree the final result on the game score card, before the match card goes to the recorders table..

Protests and Appeals

Protests will only be accepted from the named club/ regional Head Coach and should be made to the nominated umpire whose decision will be final.

Awards

Awards will be given out in accordance with Article 1 of the Special Olympics Sports Rules (section K)– after all Divisions have completed their matches.
