Job title:ASBVictim & Witness Support Worker

Salary: £24,000pa inclusive of London weighting

Hours:Full time 37.5 hours per week

This post is fixed term for 12 months

Based at Octavia House, 50 Banner Street, LondonEC1Y 8ST working 2 days per week in Haringey and Hackney ASB Team offices.

Reporting to:Senior Service Delivery Manager

Purpose of the job

To set up and deliver a cross-borough partnership focused project, supporting victims and witnesses of ASB in Hackney and Haringey with particular focus on supporting vulnerable victims identified by the ASB teams in each borough through any civil proceedings.

Main duties and responsibilities

Providing a service to victims and witnesses of ASB

  • To provide emotional and practical support to victims and witnesses of ASB in Hackney and Haringey with particular focus on supporting vulnerable victims identified by the ASB teams in each borough through any civil proceedings.
  • Complete a full needs assessment will be completed by the ASB worker and a support plan developed to outline how the needs of the victim can be addressed – including how any emotional support, accommodation, family/social, education/training/employment, cultural/faith, income/benefits, physical/mental healthcare and legal protection issues should be addressed
  • To attend ASB Partnership Action Group in Haringey and ASB Action Panels in Hackney (and other meetings and forums as identified) to identify the support needs of victims and witnesses of ASB.
  • Arrange pre trial visits and accompany clients to court for civil proceedings and liaise with Victim Support’s Witness Services for any criminal cases.
  • Advocate with partner agencies to address wider support needs including housing, health, employment, education and training.
  • Allocate referrals to volunteers and brief them with background information and action required as appropriate.
  • Maintain records of referrals and action taken using the Victim Support database.

Increasing referrals and victim awareness

  • Work in partnership with the ASB Teams, police, housing providers and other partner agencies to encourage early identification of vulnerable victims of ASB.

Monitoring and Case Management

  • To develop systems to facilitate case management and the effective monitoring of information.
  • To keep accurate records of all work done in order to show that the performance measures set by the funders are met. The post-holder will be responsible for collating statistical information
  • To ensure that all contacts made with clients are updated on the relevant case management system
  • To provide written reports on work done, as required
  • Ensure deadlines for case management, reports and monitoring are met
  • To preserve Victim Support’s confidentiality guidelines when dealing with personal records and client information

Monitoring and development

  • Monitor and review trends in the flow and type of referrals and allocation of resources.
  • Preparation of written and statistical reports on a monthly and quarterly basis for the project’s funders and participation in quarterly project funding review meetings.
  • Evaluate the skills and experience of volunteers to ensure an effective service to young victims.
  • Participate in Working Groups and meetings as required.

Recruiting, Training and Supporting Volunteers

  • Work in partnership with the Service Delivery Manager to increase the number of specialist trained volunteers able to supportvictims of ASB through recruitment, training and support.
  • Assist with delivering Victim Support’s specialist ASB training course

Experience

  • A minimum of one year’s experience of working with and supporting victims of crime (s)
  • Direct service delivery to people affected by ASB(s)
  • Working with diverse communities

Knowledge

  • An understanding of the distinctions between the voluntary sector and other work sectors
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and the roles of the agencies within it (s)
  • An understanding of the affect of Anti Social Behaviour on individuals and also the experience of appearing in court (s)
  • An excellent understanding of and commitment to the promotion of equal opportunities and diversity.

Skills and abilities

  • Strong project management skills including proven ability to plan, prioritise and organise work load.
  • Supporting people in vulnerable circumstances.
  • Ability to self-manage a demanding caseload(s)
  • Proven ability to keep accurate records and statistics in a form which is accessible and useful to funders and the local senior management team. (s)
