Job Title / AcademicManager (Quality)
Reporting to / Academic Director
Purpose of Role /
  • To support the Academic Director and Apprenticeship Manager in maintaining and improving the quality of CLS courses
  • To manage a team with the Academic and Apprenticeship functions
  • To report to the Academic Director and Apprenticeship Manager on quality assurance matters

Key Areas of Responsibility / Under the direction of the Academic Director:
  • Set and review specifications for teaching materials on courses
  • Co-ordinate the production of teaching resources including induction resources
  • Liaise with the CLS e-learning managerto identify and develop suitable e-learning resources
  • Overseethe process for setting up of materials on CLS’s VLE
  • Implement procedures for quality assurance of teaching resources
  • In liaison with Academic Director, ensure that all teaching resources comply with the CLS Teaching, Learning and Assessment policy and meet Ofsted requirements
  • Contribute to the preparation of CLS’s Self- Assessment Report and Quality Improvement Plan
  • Deal with students’ queries by e-mail, telephone or via the forums on the CLS VLE, as directed by the Academic Director
  • Deliver induction days and skills workshops at face to face events or by webinar, as directed by the Academic Director
  • Participate in developing electronic and paper based materials
  • Create, manage & support out-of-hours telephone support facility.
  • Undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required from time to time

Customer Service /
  • Deliver a high level of customer service in both written and verbal communication.
  • Deliver customer service in line with Customer Service Standards.

Knowledge to be acquired /
  • Editorial skills
  • CILEx qualification structure, including qualifying employment
  • Knowledge of legal and business admin apprenticeships
  • CILEX’s CPD requirements
  • Course procedures and structure of CILEx and CLS courses including
  • Use of OneFile and VLE

Hours of work / 35 hours. Flexibility is required- some weekend work is necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
Essential / Law/GDL/LPCor CILEx graduate
Experience of teaching in:
  • further education; or
  • higher education.
Experience of course management including developing materials, and setting and marking assessments
Experience of Ofsted Common Inspection Framework or QAA procedures
Experience of providing academic and pastoral support to students
Excellent command of English
Excellent oral clarity & written communication skills
Good knowledge in CPE core areas, but flexible: willing to review a range of different subjects
Capable of organising and prioritising own workload
Meticulous, demonstrating attention to detail
Able to build good relationships with staff and external contacts
Able to work as part of a team
Able to demonstrate an understanding of customer service
IT literate- able to create documents and presentations using Word, Excel, Power Point
Clean driving licence and car owner
Desirable / Qualified Chartered Legal Executive, solicitor or barrister with recent legal practice experience
Qualified teacher
Knowledge of latest trends in the education and legal sectors
Experience of using e-learning in law (Moodle/OneFile)
