A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS AND COACHING STAFF OF THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TEAM ON THEIR OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO THEM IN ALL OF THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork with developing great athletic talents; and

Whereas, to be a champion in volleyball, all members of the team and coaching staff must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, the Dorman High School Volleyball Team captured their ninth state title since 1990 when they became Division 4A State Champions this year; and

Whereas, in addition to their ninth state title win, the Dorman Volleyball Team also won the Region II 4A Championship, bringing home their sixteenth regional title; and

Whereas, led by Head Coach Kirkland, who was selected as Spartanburg HeraldJournal Coach of the Year and inducted into the SCACA Coaches Hall of Fame, the Dorman Volleyball Team dominated the competition throughout the season; and

Whereas, the team included exceptional players such as Jessica Pedrick, who was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award and was SCCAWS AllStar and SCCAWS AllState; and

Whereas, in addition to being named Gatorade Player of the Year in South Carolina, Jessica Pedrick was also named to the SC High School Sports Report AllState Team and the AllRegion II 4A

Team, along with the 1st Team AllTournament for the Tournament of Champions and the Byrnes Tournament; and

Whereas, other outstanding players include Laura Banks who received the Captain’s Award, the Academic Award, was named to the SCCAWS AllStar Team, recognized by the Spartanburg HeraldJournal as an AllArea player, and was named to the AllRegion II 4A Team; and

Whereas, Sarah Lewis was also an integral part in the team’s success, being named to the SCCAWS AllState Team, the Spartanburg HeraldJournal AllArea, the AllRegion II 4A Team and the 2nd Team AllTournament at the Tournament of Champions; and

Whereas, notable award recipients including Marisa Coleman with the Hustle Award, Jessica Payden with the award for Most Improved, Ashley Shells with the Captain’s Award, Jenna Cyrill being named to the AllRegion II 4A, and Liz Moyer with the Coach’s Award and the AllRegion II 4A Team; and

Whereas, the Dorman Volleyball Team has had an exceptional year and they have brought pride to the students, parents, faculty, alumni and staff, as well as the Spartanburg community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate the members and coaching staff of the Dorman High School Volleyball Team on their outstanding season and extend best wishes to them in all of their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Dorman High School Volleyball Team and Head Coach Kirkland.
