A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of David B. "Dave" Bunnell.

WHEREAS, David B. "Dave" Bunnell was born on July 14, 1947, the cherished son of the late George D. and Gene Crawford Bunnell; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bunnell graduated from Lafayette High School in 1965 and the University of Kentucky in 1970, and he later received a master's degree and rank 1 from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a teacher at Tates Creek High School for nearly three decades and coached football, wrestling, swimming, and diving. He was the athletic director at Lexington Catholic High School; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bunnell was an accomplished amateur golfer and the only player to win the Junior City, Men's City, and the Senior Men's City Championships, the "Lexington trifecta." He was the co-founder of the Larry Gilbert Foundation (renamed the Larry Gilbert-Dave Bunnell Foundation) and helped establish the First Tee Chapter of Lexington. He was an active member of both organizations and served as executive director for the past 20 years. Mr. Bunnell was the general chairman of the 1997 United States Amateur Public Links Championships at his beloved Kearney Hill Golf Links. He became president of both the Kentucky Golf Association and the Kentucky section of the Professional Golfers' Association, and was the recipient of the Kentucky Golf Association's J.W. Janes Award, a prestigious award for outstanding contributions to amateur golf; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bunnell was a member of the Lexington Fayette Urban County Council as a representative of the eighth district from 1982 to 1993. During his tenure, he held the positions of council parliamentarian and chairman of the services and planning committees. He was a board member of Lexington Center and Sister Cities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bunnell was inducted into the Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame in 2012 and was a central figure of junior golf in Lexington; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bunnell departed this earthly life at the age of 65 on April 4, 2013, leaving friends, family, and an entire community in solemn mourning; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bunnell was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother; loving wife, Patricia "Patsy" Gorham Bunnell; aunt, Jody Atkins; two sons, David "Bo" Bunnell, Jr. and his wife, Siri, and B. Todd Bunnell and his wife, Kristin; one daughter, Kate Bunnell McLean and her husband, Brad; five grandchildren, Leah Kathryn, Kal David, Luke Jolin, Brooke Evelyn, and Brandt Crawford; and granddog, Oscar;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and community of David B. "Dave" Bunnell.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of David B. "Dave" Bunnell.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative James Kay for delivery.
