Job Title: / Archaeological Illustrator
Grade: / MOLA 2.3

Hours: / 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Responsible to: / Illustration Project Officer
Overall Job purpose and Principal Responsibilities: / To prepare high quality illustrations for client reports and publication usinga variety of computer programs and occasionally traditional pencil and ink work.
To order and prepare mapping to assist in the setup of projects and fieldwork.
Principal responsibilities: / Digitisation of site drawings such as plans and sections.
To assist and advise staff with the preparation of illustration briefs to meet the individual requirements of each project.
To create high quality illustrations for client reports and publication in national and local journals, monograph series, etc.
Ordering and preparation of mapping for use in illustrations.
Digitisation of trench locations, site outlines, utilities, etc. in order to assist with project setup.
To aid the contribution of design work to websites, displays, advertising and other presentational literature.
To undertake any other duties (including fieldwork) commensurate with the position as designated by Senior project Manager.
To contribute to and support positive morale within teams.
To be polite and professional at all times and to uphold the standards, values and reputation of MOLA in all team, client and public interactions.
To work in accordance with the requirements of the MOLA Health and Safety Policy.
Special Circumstances: / None
Working Conditions: / Both site and office based work. Site work may require working on demolition sites, empty or derelict buildings, working at height, working on scaffolding, confined spaces etc.
Office work can involve extended periods of VDU work.

Qualifications
Degree level education in relevant subject or substantial experience in illustration / AF / Experience as an Archaeological Illustrator or equivalent experience / AF
Membership of CIfA Graphics Archaeology Group / AF
Experience & Knowledge
Ability to demonstrate a high quality of illustration. Please provide portfolio at interview / AF / I/ portfolio / Archaeological field work experience / AF / I
Experience of working within and cross teams / AF / I / Familiarity with archaeological site and finds records / AF / I
