Mission Statement:
IUS ASSE Student Section's vision is to help its students to achieve worthwhile purposes through understanding and living principle-centered leadership. The officers seek to inspire, empower, and provide tools to help our students increase performance and become well-informed and knowledgeable in environmental, health and safety.
IUS ASSE Student Section is of paramount importance to our Safety Program. The goals of the student section are as followed:
- Provide a round-table where other students can raise questions and ideas about the program, and act as a liaison between the student body and faculty or administration. If a student raises an issue with the student council, members are responsible for discussing the issue, making a recommendation, and bringing the problem and potential solutions to the school staff.
- To provide leadership for other students, members of a student council often participate in community service projects. They might volunteer at a local community clean-up, organize a food or coat drive. It is up to council members to identify the area where they can be of the most help and to form a plan to serve other members of the community.
- Many student councils have the responsibility of raising funds for school activities. During meetings, council members will brainstorm ideas for different fundraisers, which often include bake sales, dances, or the sale of school apparel. Individual members may be assigned to committees, including promotions, setup, cleanup, operations, or financial, in order to complete the fundraising activities.
- The student council is responsible for organizing events that promote school spirit and leadership, such as monthly meeting. They must network with guest speakers, set up dates and meeting agendas. For the event, they must recruit volunteers, set up the area, and run the event, ensuring that everything goes as planned and dealing with problems as they crop up.
ASSE provides students with invaluable leadership, mentoring, networking, scholarship and job opportunities. With your student membership you become part of a professional organization of members who share your similar interests and career objectives. By becoming a student officer you gain the experience needed for a tough job market.
