Dear Students and Prospective Students:

Attached to this email,please find:

  1. theschedule of fall courses being offered complete with instructor contact information and textbook listings,
  2. a registration instruction handout for new and continuing students.

Course descriptions are in the Graduate Catalog found online at

Some fallcourses start as early as August 27! Please register for fall courses no later than July 15, 2016by going into PASS on the UW-Platteville website. Please read these important notices regarding registration for fall courses.

COURSE FORMATS: You will find face-to-face courses as well as courses in other formats on the fall, 2016 schedule. Please read the course schedule carefully!

If you take a webcam or a hybrid course, weekly activities in D2L take the place of some of the face-to face class meeting time. These D2L activities and attendance during webcam meetings are your ways to “attend” class. Watch the weekly due dates provided by your instructor for these activities.

TEXTBOOKS: Prior to the start of your courses, please purchase the textbooks (see attached info)from a vendor of your choice. Allow enough time for your textbooks to arrive prior to the first class meeting date! On-campus students might check to see if textbooks are available in the Textbook Center rental system, but it’s not guaranteed that textbooks for our program will be available there.

REQUIRED ATTENDANCE: You should not register for a course unless you can attend all sessions of it. If you will be unable to participate in all class meetings, our advice is that you not register for that course. Attendance is critical to your success.

REGISTRATION FOR THOSE WHO TOOK COURSES IN SPRING, 2016: If you took MSE-Adult Education Courses in spring, 2016, please use the instructions for continuing students.

REGISTRATION FOR THOSE WHO DIDN’T take MSE-Adult Education Courses in spring, 2016:

If you didn’t take courses through the MSE-Adult Education Program in spring, 2016, please use the instructions for new students.

SEMINAR PAPER, PRACTICUM, INDEPENDENT STUDY:

Special permission is required to register for Seminar Paper, a practicum, or an independent study. You must contact me regarding this permission prior to July 15, 2016 to register for Seminar Paper, a practicum, or an independent study for next semester. Counseling practicum applications were due already for both the fall, 2016 and spring, 2017 semesters. You will need to email me with the location and the site supervisor at your practicum agency if taking a practicum. If you want to register for Seminar Paper for this fall, please send me an email with the proposed name of your Seminar Paper and the name of the instructor who has agreed to supervise your Seminar Paper work. If you need to complete an independent study course this fall, please contact me by email at regarding this. This would have been discussed when your Program Plan was created for you.

Do you have a “DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSE” on your Program Plan for the spring semester? (Note: Our program is not considered a “Distance Education Program.”) Distance Education registration for fall semester courses has already started. Their registration deadline is earlier than ours, so please contact the Distance Education Office now if you plan to take one of their courses. Always consult your Program Plan to know which courses you should register for each semester.

FINANCIAL AID: Financial aid questions should be directed to the Financial Aid office at 608.342.1836. You must be registered for your courses by a particular date in order to be able to use Financial Aid for the fall semester. Please contact the Financial Aid for this date.

NEED ADVICEabout what to take in the fall? Please check your Program Plan!If you have gotten off track from your Program Plan, please contact me right away for a revised Program Plan. If you have questions, please email me with your questions or make an appointment to meet with me during the month of July to discuss your Program Plan. (Please do not wait until August.)

Please keep Judy Belken in our office apprised of any changes in address, name, phone, or email, so we can be sure and remain in touch with you! Judy’s email address is . (You should also change this information in PASS for the benefit of the Graduate Office.) If at some point you want us to stop sending you mail, let us know that, too.
