Research Promotion COMMITTEE - No. Nv. Chapter #126, February 2006

Dean S. Borges, Chair (2005-2006) Goal for Chapter $2,500 - DRC Challenge

February 8, 2006Newsletter

Today’s Thoughts:

Northern Nevada contributions have reached $1,770 or 70.8% of the DRC’s Challenge. My challenge to those of you who have yet to contribute is to make that commitment today. You must realize how much ASHRAE’s information affects the decisions each day of everyone that consider HVAC&R problems. You see and hear of ASHRAE in the forefront of the problems each day in TV, print media and in Satellite Broadcast on the issues. I encourage you to send a contribution by credit card, money order, check (even cash per a form) through me or directly to the Society office (ASHRAE Research, 1791 Tullie Circle, N.E., Atlanta, GA30329-2305). Expect to receive further solicitations from me and society. In March, we plan a calling campaign to finish off the year by reaching the goal of 100% of Verle Williams, DRC challenge.

Your Contributions can help provide the Specific Goals of Research for Indoor Environmental Quality as follows:

  • Make improvements in occupant health and comfort that can yield a 20% increase in productivity by 2015.
  • Provide an optimal indoor environment for buildings, vehicles, and facilities with respect to comfort, productivity, health and safety.
  • Provide better understanding of how contagious viruses, such as SARS, influenza, tuberculosis, hemorrhagic fevers and other respiratory diseases, are transmitted in an indoor environment and develop remediation techniques and equipment to minimize exposure.
  • Develop self-diagnostic inspection methods for HVAC&R systems that minimize negative impacts on comfort, health and productivity.

Other goals involve “Tools and Applications,” “Equipment, Components, and Materials,” and “Education and Outreach.” We’ll discuss those in the next Newsletter(s).

Finally, think about your personal abilities to donate and consider what ASHRAE does for the world in which we live (but donate only what you can). Your commitment will help and every dollar goes towards the understanding of HVAC&R through RESEARCH. No funds are used for Administration or other fees but only to the RESEARCH funds (unless YOU check the boxes on a form that says to do otherwise). A contribution will help the ASHRAE system continue to provide that knowledge and recognition we all need to improve the qualities of life we want.

Best Regards,

Dean S. Borges, RP Chair
