Spellbinding Night Music at the Ulster Museum and Duncairn Centre Belfast – for immediate release 02/02/2017
Moving On Music, one of the leading promoters of jazz, folk, roots, traditional, classical and “other” music in Northern Ireland, in collaboration with Belfast Music Society, present a new series of short concerts entitled Night Music.
Night Music occurs on the first Wednesday of every month involving top end Irish and Northern Irish musicians presenting high quality chamber music in an informal setting, along with opportunities to eat, drink and meet the artists. The performances, which all begin at 9pm, will combine familiar masterpieces with new and contemporary works.
Moving On Music and Belfast Music Society are both supported by National Lottery Funding through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Ciaran Scullion, Head of Music, at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, commented,
“Night Music is a fantastic initiative which sees two of the Arts Council’s funded clients working collaboratively in a really positive way to produce this unmissable series of events. Night Music is a wonderful way to spend an evening allowing yourself to be carried away by beautiful music whilst also getting the rare chance to meet some of our most impressive artists.”
The first concert took place at the MAC on 1st Feb featuring the RTÉCon Tempo Quartet with the remaining concerts taking place on: Wednesday 1st March 2017, Carolyn Dobbin (mezzo soprano) & Joseph Middleton (piano) at the Ulster Museum

A trip to see Carmen in the Grand Opera House in Belfast sixteen years ago totally transformed the life of a young art teacher called Carolyn Dobbin. Sitting spellbound, Carrickfergus-born Carolyn had a moment of complete clarity about what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.
Currently based in London, mezzo soprano Carolyn Dobbin has a keen interest in composers from Northern Ireland, researching and collecting songs for many years. She has found many unrecorded pieces and many in manuscript form, leading to a collaboration with Delphian records and Iain Burnside to produce a series of three CDs of music by Northern Irish composers to be launched in 2017. This concert will see Carolyn joined by renowned pianist Joseph Middleton, as they perform a selection of these works.

Irish musician of Romanian origin, Alex Petcu has established himself as a percussionist of the finest calibre. One of the few Irish percussionists to focus on solo and chamber music, Alex has recently won first prize at the Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year competition and reached the semi-finals at the Tromp International Percussion Competition, one of the most prestigious international percussion competitions. For this concert Alex will be joined by his sister, and one of Ireland’s finest musicians, IoanaPetcu-Colan.
