JOB DESCRIPTION

HOME MANAGER

ACCOUNTABLE TO: ACH HOMES

REPORTING TO: SERVICE MANAGER

KEY OBJECTIVE

To be responsible for all aspects of the operational management of the home.

To develop new initiatives in care practices and overall delivery of a quality service.

METHOD

To work in accordance with Aitch Care Homes’ philosophy of care and its Policies and Procedures

To work within the philosophy of “Valuing People”

MAIN TASKS

  • To continually manage the home ensuring the highest standards of support and care are provided for the residents, that detailed Care Packages are in place and an effective service is delivered.
  • To formulate service provision in the context of “Person Centred Planning”
  • To ensure adherence to all requirements and regulations laid out under the Care Standards Act 2001 and all other relevant legislation.
  • To effectively develop good communication links between members of the team and colleagues.
  • To proactively develop positive communication networks with the local purchasing authorities, the National Minimum Standards for Care, families, health professionals and neighbours etc.
  • To ensure that the home’s budgets, staffing budget and the residents’ budgets are adhered to and effectively utilised at all times.
  • To maintain an appropriate level of management hours and ‘hands-on’ work which may involve working some shifts and sleep-in duties.
  • To ensure that the Aitch Care Homes is alerted to events / incidents at a time appropriate to their severity.

MANAGEMENT OF STAFF

  • To train and motivate staff through example and attention to the maintenance of good working practice and effective communication.
  • To be fully involved in the recruitment and selection of all staff.
  • To be fully responsible for the induction, development, supervision and relevant training of all staff within the home.
  • To be fully responsible for monitoring the work performance of all staff and to initiate appropriate action should individual performances fall below standards agreed and laid down by ACH.
  • To ensure that annual appraisals is done for all staff
  • To ensure Disciplinary and Grievance matters are handled sensitively, promptly and that Procedure is followed at all times consulting with a Senior Manager at Aitch Care Homes’ Head Office at the outset of such issues.
  • To be fully responsible for monitoring and maintaining efficient staffing levels as demanded by Purchasers and the Registration and Inspection Unit. In line with safe practice.
  • To ensure all staff is fully conversant with the company’s Policies and Procedures, Registered Homes Act 1984 and that staff are made aware of changes to Policies and Procedures or legislation promptly.
  • To work within the main provisions of the Mental Health Act, The Community Care Act, The Employment Act and the Health and Safety Act.
  • To work effectively to monitor and develop a high quality staff team.
  • Be on call and monitor these arrangements, ensuring staff has access to support or advice/guidance at all times.
  • Ensure that all staff adheres to an acceptable code of dress at all times.

MANAGEMENT OF RESIDENTS

  • To be fully responsible for the development and maintenance of comprehensive Care Plans for each individual resident.
  • To ensure that the staff team support residents effectively and that their needs are met with a proactive enabling approach.
  • To ensure all staff are aware of and are working towards meeting agreed Packages of Care.
  • To ensure that key workers are supported to provide effective Care Planning, Risk Assessment and Action Plans and ensure that Reviews are carried out six monthly.
  • To ensure that all staff are fully aware of all Action Plans, Risk Assessments, and Guidelines and there is documented evidence of this.
  • To facilitate annual holidays.
  • To ensure that regular contact is made by telephone or letter with the residents’ parents, next of kin, carers/advocates and other professionals.
  • To ensure continuity of care and support of the highest level based on an individualistic approach
  • To recognise the spiritual and cultural needs of each individual.

MANAGEMENT OF THE HOME

  • To ensure that a safe and clean environment is maintained at all times, meeting all relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Deficiencies effecting safety and quality of life for our resident group should be reported and action taken immediately.
  • To play an active role in ensuring appropriate referrals when vacancies occur at the home.
  • Ensure regular meetings are held for both residents and staff.
  • Ensure that all administration and record keeping is maintained to a high standard.
  • To be fully responsible for the monitoring of medication ordering, administration and accurate record keeping.
  • To submit weekly/monthly returns as required to ACH
  • To be fully conversant with all Polices and Procedures and develop guidelines and protocols where necessary.
  • To ensure residents’ finances are managed appropriately and that adequate safeguards are in place and in line with current Financial Instructions. Develop and maintain a sound knowledge of appropriate allowance entitlements for the residents within the home.
  • To ensure that staff are aware of the importance of positive, professional contact with other agencies, families, neighbours, etc., utilising telephone, fact-to-face and written communication.

  • To keep abreast of current trends and professional development
  • To undertake training as deemed necessary by ACH
