Job purpose

To support the Head of Communications in the development and implementation of a successful communications programme to increase public awareness and understanding of the organisation.

To support the Communications and Fundraising departments in the delivery of successful integrated campaigns to increase engagement with and support for the charity. Touse initiative to grow campaignsand fundraising activity, working closely with teams at Head Office and in the ‘Homes from Home’. To oversee The Sick Children’s Trust’s digital presence.

Community Fundraising and ‘Home from Home’ PR

  • Support the Senior PR Officer in implementing the media relations programme
  • Ensure that high quality news releases are researched, produced and disseminated to appropriate media contacts to generate maximum coverage
  • Develop and maintain relationships with targeted regional media contacts, building and managing relevant media lists
  • Field and respond to calls from journalists and day to day media enquiries

Community Fundraising and ‘Home from Home’ Marketing

  • Produce fundraising materials for supporters and houses, such as event posters or flyers
  • Support the recording and thanking of donations related to marketing campaigns
  • Manage the design, production and printing of promotional merchandise
  • Develop a strategy to capitalise on opportunities to develop income from merchandise

Digital Communications

  • Manage and plan social media content: sourcing, collating and scheduling content across channels
  • Implement the organisational social media strategy, ensuring activities reflect the organisation’s vision and brand values
  • Support the development of the website, managing content to ensure it is up-to-date and user friendly
  • Support digital innovation by keeping abreast of the latest digital trends and developments

Content Development

•Work within the communications team to generate family stories; speaking to families, writing case studies and collating photos

•Creatively develop bespoke content around key charity campaigns and activities to maximise impact

•Edit and proof all content to ensure it is appropriately tailored for each communication channel

Celebrity Liaison

  • Work closely with our Special Events Manager on our celebrity liaison, helping to secure celebrity attendees at events
  • Secure celebrity endorsement for campaigns and fundraising activities, including our Big Chocolate Tea and Pyjama Party campaigns

Reporting

  • Feed intothe communications activity planner and calendar
  • Log all communications activity and media coverage
  • Work with the Senior PR Officer to measure and evaluate communications activity

General

  • Take responsibility for own administration, including filing and handling a range of telephone enquiries
  • Ensure that The SCT’s internal database is kept up to date and add media and celebrity contacts according to the database policy
  • Ensure media/photo consent forms are completed and filed
  • Represent the organisation at agreed events and act professionally on all occasions across all channels
  • Build an understanding, as far as possible, of the work, requirements and priorities of the other department teams
  • Manage own performance to achieve personal objectives and support others in area/s of own expertise when the need arises

Duties may vary from time to time with development of the post. The post holder will be required to carry out such duties as receiving general telephone enquiries and dealing with general office administration as befits a small office environment.
