Arts and Wellbeing Project and Development Manager

Responsible to:Head of Arts and Wellbeing

Accountable to:Sessional Artists, Facilitators, Volunteers

Payscale:32-36

Description of Role

The post holder will work with the Head of Arts and Wellbeing to support the delivery of existing arts programmes, development of new projects and the integration of arts and wellbeing into our core services.

You will be responsible for the management and coordination of a range of Arts and Wellbeing projects and programmes based in the Midlands and North.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Service Development & Quality

1.1Project management and coordination of a range of arts and wellbeing projects undertaken by Sense, including involvement in national initiatives

1.2To develop and coordinate partnerships with relevant external agencies, including arts, community, social care organisations and cultural venues.

1.3Develop new opportunities to support the opening of our new service centre in Birmingham including new partnerships and collaborations with local arts organisations, fundraising and learning opportunities for the new centre.

1.4Delivering exhibition and performance opportunities for Sense artists

1.5Encouraging collaboration between staff and supporting internal and external learning.

1.6To generate growth for the Arts and Wellbeing department by supporting funding opportunities and help develop grant applications, and provide assistance to the fundraising department

1.7To monitor, evaluate and provide reports for the department and organization on our arts and wellbeing activities

1.8To manage budgets for specific projects in conjunction with the Head of Arts and Wellbeing

1.9The delivery and co-ordination of set strategic priorities for the Arts and Wellbeing department

1.10Manage delivery of Sense’s projects and scope working across all levels of the organisation

1.11Maintain required standards in the delivery of projects

1.12Support and supervise staff and volunteers in the delivery of a range of arts projects

1.13Top support the external development of Sense’s reputation in the field of high quality arts and wellbeing programmes.

1.14To ensure, where possible, that the projects are sustainable following completion of the project

1.15Increase expressive arts, cultural understanding and wellbeing skills across our services and for our beneficiaries.

1.16Complying with all external funding requirements as appropriate

1.17Effectively liaise with service users and families from different cultures

1.18Employ and manage sessional artists (volunteers and employees)

1.19Monitor, evaluate and report on Sense arts and wellbeing projects, and report directly to funding bodies where applicable

1.20Ensure that a comprehensive communication plan is in place for all projects

1.21Ensure that all participants have equal access to wide ranging opportunities

1.22Ensure a safe and open working environment

1.23Develop opportunities for joint work within the team and external agencies, using a partnership approach

1.24To develop and coordinate a range of local projects and events that engage disabled people in arts, heritage and culture.

1.25To link with Sense sites to extend the range of arts opportunities available to Sense service users and support individuals to have equal access to expressive opportunities

1.26To network with other arts organisations and disability groups, and to create the development of local partnership projects

1.27To actively promote the awareness of Equal Opportunities policies in all aspects of her/his employment.

1.28To carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by your line Manager or Senior Manager, relevant to the objectives of the post.

Education and Training
Essential Criteria / Desirable Criteria
A qualification or equivalent experience in arts management, administration or teaching
Achievements and Experience
Essential Criteria / Desirable Criteria
A proven track record in making opportunities available to people with a range of needs / Proven experience of working with people with disabilities
Proven experience in the management and development of arts and/or cultural learning projects / An existing knowledge of arts and/or wellbeing networks in the UK
Experience of managing funded projects / Experience of preparing funding applications
Awareness/experience of cultural diversity
Skills & Abilities
Proven ability to demonstrate a wide-ranging knowledge of the arts / Arts facilitation skills and experience in visual arts, performing arts or music.
Proven ability to develop new partnerships within related agencies
Ability to present clear and informative written and verbal reports
A strong team player able to work effectively in a fast paced environment, managing own workload and contributing to the team
A flexible approach to work, including unsocial hours.
