Rules and Regulations

16 Team Round Robin PW

  1. Minnesota Hockey sanctioned. Minnesota Hockey ages will be used.
  2. All games will be played under and in accordance with the rules of USA Hockey and Minnesota Hockey unless otherwise specified.
  3. All officials will be USA Hockey registered.
  4. Medical personnel as recognized by USA Hockey will be present at each game.
  5. Canadian teams must wear protective equipment as designated by CAHA.
  6. The Duluth Amateur Hockey Association and any of its affiliates will assume no liability for personal injury to any participants during the tournament.
  7. Please bring warm up pucks. We are playing at multiple sites this year to work in games around High School games, UMD practices, etc. While many sites will provide warm up pucks, not all will so please bring them to the bench when you are starting your game.
  8. Teams must check in 30 minutes prior to the start of their first game of the tournament. Teams must provide:

A: Proof of insurance–For USA & Mn. Hockey teams will be a signed stamped roster by USA Hockey registrar or his/her designee.Canadian teams-must provide team travel permit.

B: Teams must provide Individual Membership Registrations (IMR’s) for all players and coaches. If teams are electronically registered with USA Hockey IMR’s are not required.

C:USA Hockey Player Roster – USA Hockey teams must provide a team roster signed and must have stamp of approval by USA Hockey Registrar or his/her designee. Canadian teams – must provide an official team player roster from governing organization.

D:: Governmental copies of Certified Birth Certificates for each player must be provided. Hospital Certificates and Baptismal Certificates will not beaccepted. EXCEPTION: MN Hockey rostered players do not need to provide birth certificates. All other teams outside of Minnesota must have all players birth dates verified on the USA Hockey Player Roster under the verification column on the roster. If a player does not have his /her birth date verified, the team will be required to provide a copy of the player’s birth certificate.Canadian teams – must provide players birth certificate or passport.

  1. This tournament will have an additional gate fee of $250.. The gate fees will be due at tournament check-in. The tournament entry fee is $1250 and MUST be paid in advance and sent in along with the tournament application.
  2. The competition format will consist of a 16 team round robin tournament--4 brackets with 4 teams in each division (Maroon, Gold, Brown, Yellow). All teams will play a round robin format within their division. The first place teams in points from eachdivision will advance to the semi-finals of the championship round. The second place teams will advance to the consolation round. 3rd and 4th place teams will play an additional friendly game.
  3. All games will consist of three – fifteen minute stop time periods. The ice will be resurfaced every two periods. Penalties will be 2:00 minutes for minor, five minutes for a major and ten minutes for a misconduct. A six-goal lead at anytime during the game will result in running time. Each team will be awarded one timeout per game.
  4. Fighting during a game in this tournament will not be tolerated. Referees are instructed to eject any player who drops his/her stick or gloves or otherwise engages in fighting, regardless of provocation. Flagrant fighting, of deliberate action to injure, determined at the sole discretion of the Referee-in-Charge, might result in the disqualification of the offending player from the tournament.
  5. Tie games will be broken in round robin competition, championship division and consolation divisions. Tie games in the friendly games at the end of regulation will end as a tie. A two minute rest period will be followed by a 4 on 4five minute sudden death victory overtime period. If no winner after overtime, there will be a shoot out: Threedifferent (3) players from each team will participate in the shoot out. If the teams are still tied after the first shootout rounda different player from each team will participate in a sudden victory shoot out until there is a winner. Sudden victory will happen when one player from each team shoots in that round. If a player from one team scores in the sudden victory round and the other team doesn’t, the scoring team will win the game. If a penalty should occur while the teams are skating 4 on 4 in overtime the penalized player would serve his/her penalty and the teams would skate 4 on 3 until the penalty has expired. If a second penalty should occur that would put a team 2 players down while skating 4 on 3 then the non-penalized team would add 1 player and would skate 5 on 3. The 5 on 3 advantage would remain until the first penalty expires, then the teams would skate 5 on 4. The 5 on 4 advantage would remain until the second penalty expires and after the first stoppage of play the teams would then resume 4 on 4.
  1. Determining division winners: The team with the best win/loss record will be declared the division winner. If two teams are tied with wins and losses, Total points will be the next tie breaker .Teams will be awarded 3 points for a regulation win and 2 points for a win in overtime/shootout. One point will be awarded for an overtime/shootout loss. If teams are tied after round robin play the following method will be used to determine the division winners.A. Goal differential from each team within the division will be tallied. The team with the best goal differential will be declared the division winner. (NOTE: the maximum of goal differential allowed per game is 6 goals).

B. Fair play points will be tallied only to break a tie. Teams can earn 1 fair play point per game. The team with the most fair play points will advance as the division winner. Fair play points will not be listed in the official points tally for the tournament. The official points tally will be available on- line and will be displayed at the Heritage center. A link to the on-line official points tally will be emailed to teams. Thes fari play points will only be calculated by the tournament coordinator in the event of a tie and will only be used in the event of a tie in points to break said tie.

C. Penalty minutes for each team will be tallied. The team with the fewest penalty minutes will be declared the division winner.

D. A coin toss will be used to declare the division winner.

(The same procedure will be used to determine the remaining seeded teams within the divisions)

  1. Game roster stickers (4 total) must be furnished thirty minutes before the start of each game. These can be brought to the scorekeeper box or given to a tournament coordinator on site.
  2. Teams must be ready to play twenty minutes prior to scheduled game time. If ice is clear and all referees are present and ready the game can start at most 20 minutes early.
  3. Rosters will be limited to twenty players.
  4. Coaches not on USA Hockey Rosters or Canadian rosters will not be allowed in the players’ box during the game.
  5. Any protest of an individual player must take place before the start of the game and presented to the tournament committee for a ruling. The tournament committee has the final word in all disputes.
  6. Teams listed first on the draw are the home teams and should wear light colored jerseys.
  7. A coin flip will determine the home team for the consolation, consolation championship, semi-final, championship games. The home team will be the first team listed on the on-line round robin/bracket link.
  8. Teams that occupy the players’ box closest to the exit gate, shall leave the ice first. The remaining team shall exit only when all the players from the opposing team are completely off the ice.
  9. All referees decisions are final.
  10. Once your team is confirmed in the tournament, there will be no refunds for tournament fees, under any circumstances.
