The University of South Wales has secured ERDF funding to establish the Centre of Excellence in Mobile & Emerging Technologies (CEMET). This will be the first of its type in the United Kingdom. CEMET will build on existing expertise, and the strong digital economy in Wales, to collaborate with a range of businesses on the delivery of a number of developmental and applied research projects. CEMET will be a specialist centre, undertaking applied research into emerging technologies (including IoT, AR, VR, AI, Serious Game Technology, Big Data, Cyber Security, Sensor Technology and M-Health) and their use and adoption within businesses. The Centre will build on the existing capability held in Wales in the Digital field, by undertaking collaborative R&D projects focusing on the development of products and services that have the potential to support Welsh businesses across all sectors.

Reporting directly to the Programme Manager, the role holder will be responsible for undertaking high quality software and hardware testing.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Software Tester

Fixed Term Contract to 31/12/2020

GRADE & SALARY: Grade E, £28,452 - £32,958 per annum

DEPARTMENT: Faculty of Computing Engineering and Science

Responsible to: CEMET Programme Manager

Main Purpose of Job:

This role will ensure product quality by testing software, and in some instances hardware, to support a variety of R&D projects undertaken by the Centre.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

·  Liaising with a range of stakeholders including colleagues, clients and Product Owner

·  Review requirements specifications and technical design documents

·  Setting up required test beds

·  Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases

·  Estimate, prioritise, plan and coordinate testing activities

·  Identify, record, document and track bugs

·  Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved

·  Providing objective feedback to software development teams and non-technical colleagues

·  To support collaborative R&D projects in line with Scrum project management methodology

·  Keeping abreast of the latest cutting edge developments in emerging technology and applying new knowledge in the workplace

·  Providing Scrum Master services to the Centre

·  Other duties as assigned by the Programme Manager, Commercial Manager and Co-Directors

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE

i)  Significant knowledge of Agile / Scrum project management
j)  Excellent knowledge of structured software testing methodologies
k)  Good knowledge of commonly used QA / testing software / l)  SQL and scripting
m) Knowledge of automated testing tools
EXPERIENCE
Essential / Desirable
n)  Proven work experience in software development
o)  First-hand experience of leading the QA process and independently testing code on behalf of a software team / p)  Previously held a Scrum Master role
q)  Performance and / or security testing
TRAINING
Essential / Desirable
r)  Good first degree in computing related discipline or equivalent experience / s)  MSc in programming or related subject
