Non –Members of The Pony Club are allowed to compete in Pony Club Classes 4, 6 and 8 Dengie Preliminary Rounds but must become fully paid up Members to compete at their Area Competition.
Classes 4, 6 and 8 may not be commanded as commanders are not permitted at Area or Championships. All other classes may be commanded.
Class 3 may be used as a warm up for Class 4 Dengie Novice Qualifier
Class 5 may be used as a warm up for Class 6 Dengie Intermediate Qualifier
Class 7 may be used as a warm up for Class 8 Dengie Open Qualifier

GENERAL RULES APPLICABLE TO ALL LEVELS
Competitors may qualify a maximum of three horses for the Area Competition. There are new rules about multiple riders and multiple levels – please read the rulebook available on the PC website
PASSING DOWN THE LINE - In the event of a competitor being placed in a qualifying position at a Preliminary Round when they have already qualified for the Area Competition, the place may pass down the line. If a competitor who qualifies for the Championships at their Area Competition subsequently discovers that they are unable to compete at the Championships, then the qualification will pass down the line.

MULTIPLE HORSES – Competitors may qualify a maximum of 3 horses for the Area Competition and two horses for the championships in any one class. There are new rules about multiple riders and multiple levels – please read the rulebook available on the PC website SUBSTITUTIONS – Substitutions of horse/pony or rider will not be accepted at Area Competitions or at the Championships.
SADDLERY AND DRESS - The Pony Club saddlery and dress rules apply at the Area
Competitions and at the Championships. Preliminary Rounds may be run under British Dressage Rules or 2017 Pony Club Rules. If a competitor who qualifies for the Championships at their Area Competition subsequently discovers that they are unable to compete at the Championships, then the qualification will pass down the line.

Classes 3 – 8 will be judged by BD listed judges
Dressage Sheets will be available at the end of each Class or can be posted out if SAE is provided to the Secretary
Lorries and Trailers must not be skipped out in the car park
Horses and ponies to be 4 years old or over
Boots or bandages may not be worn in the classes
Numnahs, saddle cloths, pads - Only white, cream, navy, brown or black are permitted. White saddlecloths only may carry a Branch logo no bigger than 200 cm2
Whips may be carried during the test. This includes Area Competitions and the Championships. May be of any length. May not be picked up if dropped during a test. May be carried in either hand, but must be in the rein hand when saluting.
Bits - Bits should follow the configuration of those illustrated (see page 15 of Pony Club Dressage Rule Book). Bits of rubber, nylon or other synthetic materials are permitted. The mouthpiece must be coloured black, brown or white. Bits must be used in their manufactured condition without any addition to/on any part.
Hats. It is mandatory for all Members to wear a protective helmet manufactured to one of the minimum standards listed below. It must bear the CE mark and a quality symbol, either the BSI Kitemark, the SAI Global symbol or the official Snell label with number. The CE symbol on its own is not sufficient to ensure consistent standard of manufacture. The PAS 015:1998 or 2010 EN 1384:1996, BS EN
All hats must be tagged with the new aquamarine hat tag used by all disciplines-
