Sample Case Topics

The domain of the journal is broadly defined as teaching cases and related applied research on wine businesses and related support businesses within the industry. Appropriate topics include (but are not limited to):

•  Inter-generational leadership transitions and other family business issues

•  Entrepreneurial challenges faced by wine business start-ups

•  Marketing to wine consumers and business customers (off-premises and on-premises)

•  Managing customer relationships in the wine industry

•  Supply chain and logistics in the wine industry

•  Financing and accounting issues pertinent to wine businesses and support organizations

•  Sustainability in wine production, processing, and product design

•  Innovations in processes, products, marketing, funding, and forms of wine organizations

•  Management information systems and e-commerce in the wine industry

•  Adoption and use of social networks by wine businesses

•  Product portfolio management

•  Strategic planning and implementation

•  Export and import strategies

•  Governance, negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder relations

•  Corporate social responsibility and ethics in the wine industry

•  Human resource management issues in the wine industry

•  Leadership and organization in the wine industry

•  Navigating distribution channels for wine

The WBCRJ prefers cases based on primary field-research sources, which may be supplemented by secondary source material and journalistic accounts. Disguised cases will be considered if the author(s) indicate clearly that the case was disguised at the request of the host organization. The journal does not publish fictionalized, composite, or hypothetical cases. Occasionally, the WBCRJ will publish papers about practical issues encountered in applied wine business field research.

✓  Planned publication dates for Vol. 1, Iss. 1 and 2: Spring/Summer 2016 and Fall/Winter 2016.

✓  The 9th Academy of Wine Business Research pre-conference Education half-day session will feature expert case authors Sharon Forbes (Lincoln University), Marlene Reed (Baylor University), and Jeff Shay (Washington & Lee University) and reviewers as well as case roundtables for cases in progress in South Adelaide, Australia, to be held on 16 February 2016. ✓  Authors are also encouraged to attend case writing conferences. See next page for a list of upcoming regional conferences. Editorial board members will be available at many of those conferences to provide feedback to authors on their cases under development for WBCRJ.
