SERIAL NUMBERS
A. Static Equipment and Electrical Cable Inspection:
1. Are the pump cap threads clean, lubricated and in good condition? / Ref (a)
2. Is the tending line properly secured to the pump and cable? Note: Tending line will be nylon double braided or plaited 2” 50’. Should be secured to the pump so that the line takes the weight of the pump and not the electrical cord. Line should be seized to the electrical cable along the length of the cable. / Refs (a) and (c)
NAVSEA TIP (Attachment ESP-001)
3. Is the power cable free of deterioration, kinks or visible defects and electrically safety check IAW PMS? / Refs (a) and (b)
4. Is the cable stuffing tube properly packed and watertight? / Refs (a) and (b)
5. Is the switchbox cover gasket in good condition? / Ref (a)
6. Is the switchbox interior free of water and moisture with spare silver-tipped fuses in place? / Refs (a) and (b)
7. Is the star strainer clean? / Ref (a)
8. Is the ship equipped with ONE foot valve per pump and do they operate freely? / Ref (a) and (d)
9. Is the ship equipped with TWO, 2 1/2-inch hard rubber suction hoses per pump and in good condition? / Ref (d)
10. Inspect fuse(s) for continuity and proper amperage and voltage rating.
Note: IAW NSTM 300; silver-plated fuses are the only fuses authorized onboard naval ships. ESP fuse rating should be 500V, 15AS, BUSS F16. / Ref (e) Para 300-2.5.4.1
11. With pump on electrical matting, Insert pump attachment plug into dummy receptacle, Measure resistance between dummy receptacle and each exposed metal part of pump with multimeter:
Resistance must be less than 1 ohm. / Ref (b)
12. With pump on electrical matting, pump attachment plug unplugged from dummy receptacle, and access cover to control box removed, megger insulation resistance on the output side of the line fuses to ground.
Minimum insulation resistance is 1 megohm. / Ref (b)
13. With pump on electrical matting, pump attachment plug unplugged from dummy receptacle, and access cover to control box removed, measure insulation resistance between pump casing and each power lead plug contact with megger:
Minimum insulation resistance is 1 megohm. / Ref (b)
14. With pump on electrical matting, pump attachment plug unplugged from dummy receptacle, access cover to control box removed, and switch in the off position. Measure insulation resistance between pump casing and each power lead plug contact with megger.
Minimum insulation resistance is 1 megohm. / Ref (b)
B. Operational Test:
1. Does the pump operate and rotate in the proper direction? / Refs (a) and (c)
2. Is the pump free of rubbing, binding or other unusual noises during the operational test? / Refs (a) and (c)
3. Does the 440V outlet have the correct phase rotation? / Ref (e)
