It should be noted that this language acquisition guideline is the suggested pace for students who have been in the bilingual program beginning in PreK. Consideration of the student’s level of English language proficiency, immigrant status, level of English and Spanish academic language proficiency, foundational academic knowledge and skillsas well as educational experiences should also serve as a guide when deciding the language of instruction and assessment for each bilingual student.
