FAIRER THAN THE CHILDREN OF MEN

By the late Rev. J.C. Wielhouwer

Text: Psalm 45: 2a

“Thou art fairer than the children of men.”

1.  The person of whom he speaks

2.  The comparison that is made

3.  The instruction and the comfort that lies in it.

Firstly:

o  In a more exalted sense this is applicable to the Lord Jesus,

Who is the King of kings?

o  But King Jesus reigns as King in an eternal glorious kingdom

of peace.

o  Is this King also your King, beloved?

Have you as yet enlisted under His banner?

Secondly:

o  There never was one like Him, and one like Him shall never

be found anywhere.

o  But perhaps one of you may ask: “How did the bride know

that King Jesus was fairer than any man?”

o  King Jesus is also fairer as the Son of man.

Thirdly:

o  There was no visible or external glory about the Lord Jesus.

o  Jesus is fairer as He hangs on the cross and prays for His

enemies.

o  Jesus is fairer in His death when He called out triumphantly,

“It is finished.”

o  The Lord Jesus is fairer in the state of His exaltation.

o  King Jesus is fairer in His coming again.

o  But all these were types of the Lord Jesus, Who alone could

administer the three offices as Prophet, Priest and King.

o  The bride was instructed about the truth of the beauty of

her soul-Bridegroom.

o  They can speak of their misery, but they have no eye for

the Lord Jesus.

Application:

o  Many are two-faced and want to serve both God and the world,

and thus go through life.

o  They seek themselves, and are more lovers of their own

selves than lovers of God.

o  Indeed, they are people who in themselves are naked and

blind, despised by the world, but beloved in the eyes of the Lord.

o  Does your soul not long for Him at times, to meet Him again?

o  The pious Job gloried in it: “For I know that my Redeemer

liveth!
