Calamity Day 6 Lesson Plan
Lesson Summary: Throughout this year we have periodically discussed Spanish-speaking countries. This lesson is about Guatemala and Honduras - two countries in Central America.

· Standard 4.2:Students demonstrate understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons of the cultures studied and their own.
Materials and Resources: Only the resources present in the lesson are needed. You will be access to the Internet to access all the resources.
Vocabulary: all new vocabulary is defined in the PowerPoint
Instructional Procedures: Please read the directions in each section and do the activities that are listed. You will need to watch the PowerPoint presentation in order to complete the assignments. Throughout the PowerPoint presentation there are several times in which you are asked to participate. Make sure that you click on the extra links when asked to do so for the extra activities. As you watch the PowerPoint take notes. You should have at least one front page written in English in order to receive full credit.
Assessment: You will be asked to complete two journal entries in Spanish and take notes over the PowerPoint.
Rubric/Grading Scale: The following rubric will be used to analyze the journal entries, and the notes will be graded on completion.

After viewing the PowerPoints answer the following questions in English, in complete sentences. You should write a paragraph (5-7 sentences).
· What were the 2 most interesting facts you learned about Guatemala?
· What were the 2 most interesting fact you learned about Honduras?
· Have your thoughts changed at all about visiting either of these countries, why or why not?
