Pastoral Planning Bulletin Announcements

May 1 ~ Sixth Sunday of Easter
Growing pains. Today we hear more about the growing pains of the early Church. The Apostles were doing something that had never been before, building a community of believers in Jesus Christ, Son of God. There were bound to be misunderstandings and differences of opinion. Today, the Church of Boston is doing something new: bringing parishes together under one pastor and leadership team, to focus on spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ – evangelization. Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel sustained the early Church, and us today: “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” The Holy Spirit – the Advocate – is still with us.

May 8 ~ Seventh Sunday of Easter
Today’s Gospel is the close of Jesus’s final discourse to his Apostles which began in chapter 14. These are among the most touching and inspiring words of Scripture. Jesus pours out his heart, giving instructions and encouragement to his closest friends. Directing His words to His Father, Jesus prays: “And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me…” We pray for unity among Christians, but today, pray for unity within our own Catholic Church and within our parishes. Let Jesus’ word inspire us to be bridge builders, right here, right now.

May 15 ~ Pentecost Sunday
Happy Birthday to us! Pentecost Sunday is called the birthday of the Church. “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.” We, here, today, are the fruit of this proclamation. And, 2,000 years later, the New Evangelization calls each of us to be open to, and cooperate with, the Holy Spirit working in us. We are called to proclaim the good news of salvation in words and deeds – not preaching, but simply telling others how God has worked in our lives. It is up to us to cooperate with the Spirit and renew the face of the earth.

May 22 ~ The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
The Most Holy Trinity – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is a Mystery of our faith - not to solve, but to believe and delight in. Three Persons in One God. There is no mystery in Paul’s words to the Romans, only comfort and blessed assurance: “.. affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” Hope does not disappoint!

May 29 ~ Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Eucharist is from the Greek word meaning gratitude, thanksgiving. Today we celebrate this great gift that Jesus gave us. He promised that He would be with us always, and He left us the sacrament of His Body and Blood. Do I know how great this gift is? Do I take it for granted – get to Mass a bit late, leave after Communion? Consider Who I am receiving. Consider what Jesus calls me to be and to do. Holy Communion is very definitely ‘take out’ Food: we are called to receive Jesus and bring Him to everyone we meet. Holy Communion is very definitely NOT fast food: Body of Christ. Amen. Out the side door. Find a Mass time that allows you to stay until the last note of the recessional! Eucharist – thanksgiving.
