Turn RIGHT onto main track and follow for 300 yards. Then track goes down hill - as it goes up again take 2nd track on your RIGHT(IF YOU COME TO A T JUNCTION YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR! ) Follow track (quite twisty and rooty) for about 2/3 mile (ignoring all tracks to left and right – straight on at crossways) until you come to T junction. Turn RIGHT down the hill – at bottom turn sharp LEFT.

2.Follow track for about ¼ mile – bends to left, then to right, then widens out – take 1st main track on RIGHT, BW sign, follow round bends, passing bench, for about 200 yards, then take 1st small track on RIGHT. Follow track to right for 150 yards then round left hand bend downhill - keep bearing left (Ignoring any other tracks) then along the bottom of the woods for about 1/3mile. WARNING – cyclists may suddenly appear from your left on downhill tracks – take care. At T junction bear sharp left LEFT onto the track. Initially the track is hard and has some gullys but after approx 1/3 mile widens out & becomes the famous Woburn gallop track, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOU MAY MEET WALKERS / OTHER HORSES. Follow track straight ahead for about 1/3 mile to gateways at byway.

At bottom of hill turn immediate LEFT (new planting to your right)and follow narrow track uphill to small crossways (bit boggy). Go straight on into woods, passing big tree root, and after 50 yards take narrow LEFT hand fork through new planting. Follow track for about ½ mile and make your own way over the ditches (better to the left). After 400 yards cross little wooden bridge and continue on track to crossways on hill.

4.Go straight ahead (not up the hill) and follow track round bends (ignoring ALL other tracks to left and right, straight on at crossways), for about ½ mile - then track bends left steep uphill for a few yards, turn immediate RIGHT after the tree passing BW sign, follow track down for 150 yards to bridlegate out onto the lane.Turn RIGHT down the lane for about 300 yards, round left hand bend then take small track on your LEFT (NOT down the steep road hill) leading up passing the church on your left. Go thru 2 gateways then after 100 yards turn RIGHT onto golf club bridleway. Follow track for appx ¾ mile to lane – turn LEFT and follow lane for ½ mile to road T junction.

5.Cross road straight ahead onto by-way – after 20 yards take BW on LEFT follow this track for about ¼ mile taking 2nd main turning on RIGHT – follow for 50 yards and turn RIGHT again back onto the wide sandy track – follow round left hand bend back to the gateways (ignoring all smaller tracks to left and right.) Good canter opportunity! Crossover gateways and take first track on LEFT. Follow track around bends for about ¼ mile to crossways, turn LEFT and after 150 yards take next LEFT – narrow track heading downhill that bends to right after just 20 yards. (do not go straight on down very steep hill!) Follow downhill to right, houses on your left, and continue through woods for about ¼ mile until you come to road crossing.

Follow for about 1/3 mile back to the venue.

Woburn – Nov 15th – start time from 9 – 10am – approx 10 miles

Venue – picnic area sited on Longslade Lane. From the A5 – take the turning signed Woburn, follow for approx 300 yards then take left fork with signs to Woburn Golf Club – come to T junction, turn right and venue is about 400 yards on left.

From Woburn/Woburn Sands – take the A5130 and take Longslade Lane (on left or right depending on where you’re coming from) follow lane for appx 1 mile and venue is on your right.

The ride is full, so parking will be tight – please park as close as possible (allowing for unloading obviously) and follow the directions of any parking marshall. In the event of the car park being full we may send lorries to park on Sandy Lane by-way.

YOU WILL NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON YOUR TALK THRU!! It is very difficult to describe the route – so PLEASE CONCENTRATE or you WILL get lost!!

We will mark the route with chalk spray BUT at previous rides some ‘helpful’ walkers have obliterated some markings, so please concentrate and don’t assume you know the way......

Woburn Woods are very popular with walkers, dogs, cyclists as well as other horse riders – PLEASE show due respect to other members of the public – always pass at walk & warn people that horses are approaching. This ride uses the gallop track twice – please try to ensure that you can see far enough ahead to check for walkers / horses etc and that you are able to stop if necessary – you do NOT have right of way just because you are on horseback.

As ever – please take all droppings home with you and leave the venue clean and tidy.
