Children Act 1989 – Section 20 Agreement

This section 20 agreement has been prepared by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD). This agreement has been formed to ensure the continuing safety of the children named in this agreement.

Section 20 of the Children Act 1989 is a voluntary agreement between the parent(s) and the Local Authority allowing the children named in the agreement to remain in care of LBBD Children Services with parental consent. Section 20 of 1989 Children’s Act allows the parents(s) to retain full Parental Responsibility with no court proceedings involved at this stage.

Although this agreement is not a legally binding document, it demonstrates the commitment of the signees to work alongside the department to safeguard the children involved.

The Local Authority will seek legal advice should the named adults not adhere to the plan as set out in the written agreement. Please note this document and the written agreement may be used as evidence in any future care proceedings

If the adults signing this agreement are unwilling or unable to adhere to the specifications outlined above or there are any other concerning incidents, the allocated Social Worker will consult with the Team Manager to agree what further appropriate action should be considered.

I have read the LBBD Section 20 Guidance notes for Parents and I understand that I can withdraw consent and request the return of my child at any time.

In signing this form I confirm that I have read this document, understand its contents and I agree to its terms.

Please note this agreement will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure it continues to be the most suitable arrangement for the child / ren.
